Neither one of them is as good as Star Track.

the wire is probably the best show that has ever been on TV. GoT is amazingly good... but it's no wire.

2014-05-30 12:06:41 PM
Yeah...I'd call this statement less "trolling" and more "true." Both are good, although this has been the weakest season of GoT by far. But the Wire started out amazing and got better as it went.

Mayor Carcetti has no problem with this.

I have no problem with that statement.

Just wait for seasons 4 and 5.  They will be disappointing with no major climaxes.  It will be interesting to see how they handle it.

Breaking Bad was better than both

Well, most people don't like David Simon and have garbage taste so I am not letting this make me upset.

Just gotta breathe. That farking wig though. I mean the discussion should end there.

Seems right to me.

Game of Thrones, HBO's fantasy series based on author George R.R. Martin's still-unfinished A Song of Ice and Fire saga, is not like those shows. It is about swords and sigils and dragons and frozen baby-crazed zombies and it is decidedly uninterested in transcending these trappings or ironically critiquing them.

Bullshiat, GoT is one of the most realistic fantasy stories done. And no it's not about swords and sigilis and dragons, it's about characters and politics, and intrigue.

Stupid author!

What? This is season 4... the only reason it seems like a lull is they started the season off with a pretty climatic event early on. Expect more climatic events in the next couple episodes (don't want to be modded for spoilers in a blatant spoiler thread).

**********************spoilers!!!

Wouldn't John Snow being stabbed to maybe death count for a climax or cliff hanger or will that not be included in season 5 of the tv show?

OK, I'll say it.

The Wire is boring.

I gave it an honest try, I really did. I made it through the first two seasons. It wasn't bad by any stretch, don't get me wrong. It's well acted, well directed, and I appreciate the fact that it digs into deeper issues than the average show. But the show just isn't all that entertaining to watch at the end of the day.

I prefer something like The Shield way, way more.

I guess it depends on how much territory you include in "almost". It's a very good show, perhaps even great once it's all said and done. Certainly better than 99% of the shows on right now.

But it's no The Wire.

Naw carving down DoD and a FoC and mixing the order into 20 episodes will make it a lot more entertaining. That's the great thing about the serious is they can cut down lots of the bloat.

I don't know, McNuttie wrapping his car around telephone poles and generally being a farkup traffic cop was pretty funny.

Actually, The Wire was awesome from first episode to last episode.
GoT's first season kinda sucked until the last 4 episodes.

Ok right well season 6 will be epic I guess.  I guess Dany and Arya have a lot of action.  I just hated how he split the books.

The Wire, boring?  I think it just played to a sophisticated audience.  I remember a friend telling me once, "People don't watch TV because they want to think."  That was definitely an "ah ha," moment for me.

And I'll admit I didn't get The Wire when it first aired.  I found it after it had already gone of the air, but I was a  fan of Homicide and I love David Simon so I was predisposed to fall in love with it.

You're right and it will make the timeline consistent, which was really annoying reading the books.  I just read an article about how the writers were already stressing about how and where to stop for season 5 since their wasn't a climax in the middle of either books at least compared to all previous seasons.

I guess technically I'd put  The Wire above  Game of Thrones (so far), but come on, this is like arguing about seventh-round draft picks. During the Super Bowl.

There are eleven seasons of  Two and a Half Men to re-watch in preparation for Season Twelve, so forgive me if I let my HBO subscription lapse in the meantime while I concentrate on that.

"Full of holes" being about as dead as it's possible to get in Westeros anymore. Which would be a little less annoying if he'd started out writing the books that way, but at some point he went from "everyone might as well be named Ben Parker" to "everyone might as well be named Wolverine" in the blink of an eye.

20 episodes? I think both those books might be doable in 10. How much time do we need to spend following Brienne wandering aimlessly, or Danerys losing control of another city, or just wondering where whores go?

My top Four in no particular order

The Wire
Breaking Bad
Louie
Game of Thrones

Breaking Bad will always be it for me.

Too many stunning moments in that show, and one simply epic performance from Cranston.  It helps, too, that I'm from the southwest.  They got so much right in that show on the mundane level.

Why does everyone hate the second season? I just started the 5th last night. The second season with the Greek and the shipping yard was really good. The ending is the best because it's like the empire strikes back. It ends on a down note and the bad guys get away with it.

"Game of Thrones" is well-made dreck.

Fantasy, as a genre, is brain-dead.

Serious if they cut that down to 10 I would not cry a tear. But I think there is enough for 20.

Yeah I felt those books got a bit repetitious. He really should have had an editor and chopped it down to one book.
