GhettoWinter: So, let me get this straight.  Sterling being outed as a racist just earned him 2 Billion dollars? Wow.

If only capital gains were taxed properly like normal income.

capngroovy: jso2897: Lost Thought 00: Seattle will ultimately get an expansion team. With all the new money and the new TV deal in a couple years, the League would do well going up to 32 teams. Not sure where the other team would land.

San Diego?

Don't wanna land in no San Diego
Don't wanna land in no Buzzards Bay

Maybe Cincinnati or Pittsburgh?

I'm seeing throwback Kentucky Colonels jerseys within this decade.

I'd be really sad if they didn't play that at least once per game.

Needs to be a fan chant.

Good luck to the rest on the NBA owners. A very dangerous precedent has been created

Cybernetic: So every game between the Clippers and Blazers will now be a Paul Allen / Steve Ballmer throwdown?

I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

Laugh. They're both good teams on the rise.

bluorangefyre: SenorBenedict: netweavr: He's the guy who wanted the Kings in Seattle. Looks like the Clippers are moving. And being renamed to Clippy.

Nope part of the deal and the reason Balmer was willing to drop 2 billion was them staying in los angeles.

I'm sure Seattle would like to remind people how the deal can be altered.

And they pray it will be altered further.

SenorBenedict: Lost Thought 00: That won't be the top bid when it's all said and done.

I dunno 2 billion seems pretty hard to beat, especially for the clippers.

I have to imagine the Chinese group has essentially unlimited money, and they have reasons beyond simple business to want the team.

This price freaks me out.  The only way you can recoup that is by doing what the lakers and dodgers have done and create your own tv channel and hold the local broadcasts hostage.  I see another blackout in the works for next year.

Shame Us: stappawho: Now, I don't recall what happened back on 05/06.  But why the hell didn't Ballmer buy the Sonics back then?  From the coffee asshole.

He headed up a "too little too late" bid for the team.

When the writing was really on the wall that the team would be moved, people in power around here finally took notice.

I think another part of Ballmer's hesitation on buyng the team was the spector of an arena fight in a city that was warn out from paying for Safeco and the CLink. Trying to get public money for an overhaul ofe KeyArena or a new facility was going to be a torturous process. Not something you want to jump into right after spending $350 million on the team. Not to mention that the private contribution for the arena would have likely been more than $100 million. And Ballmer didn't really have the "I'll move the team" card in his back pocket.

Well, minus the $11 million he purchased the team for. So $1,989,000,000.

/Also, all the costs of running the franchise, but it's funnier if you don't think about that.
