Dull Cow Eyes: Waiting for the team to be renamed and re-logoed. "Clippers" and pink and blue always sucked.

Maybe call them the L.A. Dragons?

Congratulations everyone screaming for his head just made a rich old asshole even richer, all this BS screaming took a lower priced major market NBA team and made them a huge PR move.

If I didn't know better I would say the rich old racist planned it the whole time, damn whitey always getting over.

This team was always going to sell for billions. The farking Milwaukee Bucks just sold for 550m and they're terrible and located in one of the nba's smallest markets.

No precedent, dangerous or otherwise, has been created here.

A private conversation was made public and what he said led to his team being sold out from under him.

I guess you and I have a different meaning of the word "precedent"

You think that no franchise owner has ever been kicked to the curb for making the parent company look bad?  Reach your finger out in front of you, and you just might pop that bubble you're living in.  Yes, heinous comments being publicized might change your life.  Alert the press.

And, if earning $2B on the sale of property is a "dangerous precedent", can I have someone levy a dangerous precedent against me?

So............. no new non-white, non-Jewish, and/or non-male ownership?  Same shiat, different boss?  Kind of (very) disappointing.

I'm not sure I buy this argument, though.  Donald Sterling will go down as one of the few owners in professional sports that had his team taken away from him.  Years from now, when people mention his name, they will say "Oh yeah, that's the racist guy who had the Clippers taken away from him".

If he wanted to sell the team, he could have done so without the trouble of of the last few weeks.  I would imagine that because of the Dodgers, Lakers, and Angels TV deals that have come down in the last few years that folks would have tripped all over themselves to buy the team (just like they did this week).  Not to mention that the national TV deals are expiring relatively soon and paying for the "talent" in the NBA is a relatively fixed cost with the salary cap.

Almost every sports franchise in the U.S. is owned by a family trust. Very few sports teams are owned by corporations. Before Sterling no owner has EVER lost his team for what they said.

Magic Johnson tweeted that Steve Ballmer was a smart businessman.

Indeed - Clippers seem like a bargain in this chart:

$8.5B  Skype Technologies
$7.2B  Nokia's  mobile phone unit
$6.3B  aQuantive
$2.0B  Los Angeles Clippers
$1.2B  Yammer
$0.6B  17% of Barnes&Noble's Nook

GhettoWinter: So, let me get this straight.  Sterling being outed as a racist just earned him 2 Billion dollars? Wow.

He'll be hit with a massive capital gains tax if that comforts you.

Before Sterling, no owner had ever said something like that and had it publicized.
