Wasn't this the same Richard Clarke that was publicly critical of the Bush administration DURING the Bush administrations?  Isn't this the same Richard Clarke that the Bush administraiton smeared in the press during that criticism?

Why is this still news?  That is a better question.

I used to work with a guy who was a marine during the first gulf war (and yes i know once a marine always a marine...yadda yadda), and he claimed he had a bead on a door in a palace Saddam was residing in and if Saddam had come out that door he would have taken the shot, and probably had a lethal "accident" on the way back home for it.  But, he said, it would have totally been worth it. And this was even before 9/11 so he probably thinks it would have been even more worth it now.

But Saddam never did come out that door.

I "approached" Baghdad at some point in the first Gulf War at about 500 mph carrying 155 1000-lb dumb bombs on a one-way trip. Gave me nightmares for years afterwards.

On a tangentially related note I recall my history teacher in junior high (mid 1960's) telling the class that everyone of his generation remembered EXACTLY what they were doing when the radio (see "internet" of 1941...) announced that the "forces of Japan" had attacked Pearl Harbor. For my boomer generation that moment came when they broke into Educational TV programming to announce that President Kennedy had been assassinated in Dallas. My teacher broke down crying in front of the class. Later on I was sitting on the tarmac at Kelly AFB when the local AM station broke in to play a satellite call from Wolf Blitzer saying something like, "Something is happening in the night sky of Baghdad!"

So I'm trying to do the math. 155 x Mk83s? I didn't think a BUFF could hold that payload, even with the extension. So I'm guessing a Lancer?

No, he was only 30.  That's usually what low level officers are doing around then.
