I play video games WAY better when I'm on weed.

It slows me down enough to pay attention and lets me sit still for more than 5 minutes.

I can't wait until people just accept cannabis use and ignore it completely.  It really isn't worth all this attention.

The author needs a better source of weed if he's getting all that leaf in it.

Practice makes perfect.  Three 'normal' games.  Three 'stoned' games.  Game #4/#5/#6 should technically be better regardless of state because of your enhanced familiarity with the game mechanics.

Slight thread jack.  Origin is giving away Battlefield 3 for free this week.

Thank goodness they dont test gamers for Code Red

Step 2: Mandatory testing of athletes because they're role models for children'
Step 3: Mandatory testing of everyone getting a new job because who wants to hire a druggy.
Step 4: Mandatory testing of video gamers because ...?

Best weed I ever got still had the sweet leaves on it.  With so many trichromes on it I didn't mind one bit.

It was a somewhat known fact that during the prime years of WoW that the top raiding guilds frequently took beta blockers when gunning for world firsts. To reduce jitters.

In certain circumstances I've found cannabis to be a performance enhancing drug: playing Half Life, snowboarding, and uhm.. nope, that's it. .

Estimated time until cannabis: 51 minutes.

Well, possibly, because they are participating in a competition - if weed is found to enhance gaming performance, it's use in competition would probably be banned. But that would be an issue for the organizations involved to work out.

One study published in the Journal of Psychoactive Drugs tried to assess sex difference in driving while high on marijuana and found none. The researchers on behind the study also did not find that the stoned drivers operated the vehicle any more dangerously than the placebo group, other than the stoned drivers slowed the vehicle 3-5 percent more during segments where attention was divided. This additional slowing of the vehicle seems to have been a self-aware compensation on the part of the subjects in deference to their altered state.

The study does not actually say anything about how cannabis affects driving, but about how the perception of ingesting cannabis affects driving. There was no "non-pot-smoking" control group, only "0% delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) (placebo) or 2.9% delta-9-THC (active)" groups (taken straight from the study linked). And given that there are literally dozens of studies on how people drinking what they *think* is an alcoholic beverage but is in fact not still end up acting drunk (on top of other studies on the influence of top-down perceptions on subsequent cognitive, perceptual, and motoric behavior that aren't necessarily about psychoactive substances), without a "non-pot-smoking" control group, the study is kind of meaningless. A more parsimonious interpretation would be that the placebo group acted more or less how the experimental group did because both groups were blind to the condition they were in but were experiencing all of the same accoutrements of smoking actual pot, giving all of them the impression that they were smoking actual pot, priming them to act in accordance with how they do when they usually smoke pot. Hell, based on the entire data collected in the study, the authors themselves concluded, "This study supports the existing literature that marijuana does affect simulated driving performance, particularly on complex tasks such as divided attention." (page 10)

I'm not agreeing or disagreeing with anything else the author of the study says (I don't particularly care enough either way to go through the whole article critically enough to form an opinion), but this error was particularly glaring to me, so I felt like commenting on it.

There was a case a few years ago of a woman being stripped of her contract bridge tournament trophy because she tested positive for marijuana. How it is possible for marijuana to be considered a "performance enhancing drug" within the context of bridge (where you essentially have to keep track of all 52 cards in a deck and calculate the odds of the other people having particular cards--in other words, lots and lots of mental math) is beyond me, but apparently the ABA is trying to make bridge an Olympic sport--ha ha... ha ha ha ha--and they have to comply with Olympic drug testing standards.

About ten years ago I was hired to do a web site first for the Connecticut Bridge Association and then for the New England Bridge Association (I do not play bridge). After getting a description of their requirements I said "It sounds to be like you need to find a young, hip web designer who also plays bridge to design your site." The various members of the committee looked at each other, nonplussed. The average age of a member of the American Bridge Association is 70.

I'm at my peak after 4 or so alcoholic drinks. A few years back I played with some other older guys in a casual league and when I was sucking my teammates always told me to go get another beer.

I'm insanely good at driving in Grand Theft Auto while on acid.
