(The Wire)   A mere 4 years later, the GOP has come up with an alternative to "Obamacare." Of course part of was recently ruled unconstitutional, and the other part has been proven to be more expensive and less effective than the ACA, but still, it's SOMETHING   (thewire.com) divider line 78

The GOP's real problem is that they're not happy unless they're doing horrible things to ordinary Americans.  Ordinary Americans will figure this out if preexisting condition coverage is revoked.

Oh my GOD just leave it alone.  The Affordable Care Act is ensuring I can (a) get the physical therapy I need for my wrist and (b) maintain the medications I have taken for 7 years. Without having to pay $600/month for COBRA since I lost my job when I went on disability (which is next to no money).

I would be broke incredibly quickly without this help. I would never vote against my own self-interests.I imagine a lot of people feel the same way.

But their new plan does get rid of the parts that actually help people, right? That's kind of a minimum requirement for the GOP.

That headline makes my eyes bleed.

GOP plan: Those too poor to afford healthcare can go to prisons or workhouses, where healthcare will be provided for them.

2014-05-29 05:08:27 PM
They don't want to fix the healthcare problem, they just want to prevent democrats from fixing it and getting credit for it.

They don't care if people can't get health insurance. They don't care if people go broke paying for health expenses.

Then again, part of wasn't.

Merry Christmas, I guess.

The GOP should have just gone all-in on the evil. Repeal the ACA and EMTALA and pass a new bill that prohibits doctors from providing free or reduced-cost care (with mandatory 20 year prison sentences for both doctor and patient).

/not actually advocating they do this.

2014-05-29 06:10:54 PM
I've said it before. The GOP, if they could, would repeal the ACA then immediately replace it with an identical act, but call it the American Liberty and Free Market Freedom Reagan Health Care Act and claim that they 'fixed' health care.

Well of COURSE you're for it. You're one of the freeloaders who has their insurance subsidized by hard working Real Americans like me. I, as someone who will never age or fall ill, just have to suck it up and watch you take MY health money and squander on the poor life decisions you made to get sick. If you just had a little personal responsibility enough to choose not to injure yourself, you wouldn't have been in this mess. Now that you are you come crawling to big ol' Uncle Sugar to fix it for you. It's pathetic.

The sad part is that the GOP *actually* believe this and want to take away any and all assistance for the poor and disabled.

I always figured Republicans preferred the Rule of Two.

2014-05-29 07:36:19 PM
A bigger problem might be that the GOP's best chance for covering a lot of people might be to resemble Obamacare as much as possible. "As far as repeal and replace goes, the problem with replace is that if you really want people to have these new benefits, it looks a hell of a lot like the Affordable Care Act," a congressional GOP health aide

This is what is going to happen they are going to have something that is 99% Obamacare and then go "See it's no longer OBamacare now it's all fine". They are already doing it pretending exchanges... you know they thing they attacked Obamacare for when they came out are no longer part of Obamacare.

2014-05-29 07:38:15 PM
If the GOP is thinkin' strategical, they'll keep it nebulous until post-election. Backing anything concrete at this point is unnecessary and just gives the banshees of the left something to lie about and attempt to turn into another "Throw grandma off the cliff" campaign ad. Obamacare by itself is enough of a dead weight to sink the Democrats without the Republicans having to throw another ounce of weight into the boat.

There is good news, shenanigans like this are the reasons, in Georgia at least, the GOP is trailing in both the Senate Race and Governor's Race.

dumbasses. if there was a bright bulb in the GOP (there ain't) they'd hit left of the dem's and start clamoring for single payer

"For Americans, not corporations and health insurance companies."

alas, they are crippled by ignorance.

Yeah, I know. I should sue the rug I tripped over.

The worst part, to me, is 5.5 years of loyal work at a small company and the boss I worked my ass off for (including until 1am some nights, or pulling over to take calls when I was driving home) threw me to the wolves because I tripped and broke two bones. Way to kick someone when they're down. I have to go on unemployment after I'm able to drive and look for a job, too.

By the way, they take Medicaid out of my paltry disability checks. Social Security and taxes, as well.

(I know you were being sarcastic, but people on disability and unemployment are still paying into the system/social safety net.)

2014-05-29 07:49:19 PM
Have they demanded that the poor just stop being poor? That's the usual GOP strategy.

2014-05-29 07:49:43 PM
If you get sick we cut your taxes until the disease is cured.

2014-05-29 07:51:39 PM
This just goes to show how petty their hatred of Obama actually is. They originally were proud, but because Obama was intrigued by it, they went to the other extreme, going all-out in trying to bring it down.

We'll view the ACA in 1-2 decades the same way we view Don't Ask Don't Tell today: not the absolute best solution, though compared with what we had before, a huge leap forward.

Yeah and when I was laying in the *hallway* of the emergency room, for 10 hours, waiting for broken wrist treatment, I watched people come in and out for toothaches, or a cold, or whatever.  We were furious that I was laying in the hallway, in pain, in an actual emergency, as they worked their way through absolute non-emergencies they couldn't do anything about but suggest they see a doctor or dentist the next day.  It was chaos, and the emergency room was being abused while it seemed like actual emergencies (certainly mine) were being ignored.  We went there at 8pm and someone finally set my wrist at 6am. My boyfriend stayed up all night watching over me, since nobody seemed to care beyond giving me a pain pill of some sort when I was admitted.

That's a great healthcare system.

2014-05-29 07:55:07 PM
I saw Mitch McConnell and perused the first couple lines and thought it said 'single prayer system'.  Now THAT I believe is something for which they would advocate.

Because all the people they have helped would vote against him rather than go back to not having health care.

I was listening to NPR today. I forget the topic.  But at some point they introduce a guy who was a key lawyer in the Reagan whitehouse who helped shape policy on things like pollution regulation.  He was talking about cap and trade and how they had worked to get something like that going.  So now republicans treat cap and trade like some evil Clinton/Obama construction but this guy clearly stated Reagan was advancing the idea way back then.  He didn't make clear where it started.  Perhaps the Johnson administration for all I know.  Similarly Obamacare is vitually word for word the republican backed alternative to Hillarycare from the early 90s.  And yet it is somehow an evil socialist conspiracy.

Hush your mouth. Do you eat with that thing?

Reagan was gluten free, Reagan had a ranch. He hired no half-bloods like Elliot. Study it out.

Go to Santa Barbara. Godly President Reagan has his own museum in Santa Barbara, right next to the fast food joints.

Now remember why that gun loving young man was shot down in cold blood? Thanks Obama.

The nice thing is, when I go back to work, I don't necessarily have to worry about what kind of benefits are offered because there are a ton of plans on the CT exchange.  I could go back to freelancing. I could try something totally new and not have to worry about the what ifs of sickness or accidents.  My employer no longer can control me by having a tight reign on my ability to take care of my physical health.

I just had an absolute damned fool tell me that he is on part time due to 'stupid farking obama healthcare' as his employer 'cant' put him on full time as they wouldhave to ay benefits.

As long as millions like him blame the government not their selfish evil coont bosses then you will never get anywhere.
