The bad thing is, the cops can tell right away if you're half in the bag.

He's taken a suitcase and used it for the seat on a motorized scooter.  This is not as impressive as I'd hoped.  Also, what took ten years?  If anyone wants one of these, let me know and I can have it built for you in a couple of months.

10 years to make that?!  My god what did he do with the other 9 years 11 months?

...but can he make a wallet out of foreskins that turns into a suitcase when you rub it?

living in a rural area you see rednecks make shiat like that in a weekend, drive it around blotto and crash it into a tree all to just make something else the next weekend.

This is like those Amphicars from the 60's. Technically it fits two roles...car and boat. But in practice it's not a good car, and it's not a good boat either.

I wanted to say weekend but didn't want to insult too much but yes it could be done easily in a weekend.

So you're calling BS on the very first sentence in the article that says he's a farmer, then?

I have to admit I was really surprised by how much it looks like exactly what it is.

Usually, these things are only a scooter/go-cart in or as a suitcase.  If it's actually a vehicle and suitcase, usable as luggage while the machinery is stashed away, then he might have something.  Otherwise, meh.

I was unable to load the link provided by subby (because all you farkers broke Boing Boing), but I read an alternative story linked by some other farker. In that story he (He) was called a part time inventor that also runs an auto parts company.

I guess I shouldn't have said, "FTA," but rather "from an alternative article." Maybe.

That's your cue, Q.

2014-05-29 03:51:13 PM
Huh.

Not impressive...general consensus is it's common at best...

Assuming that the writer (from the source) truly believed 10 years was impressive, then let's assume this is a cultural thing.

So, how could that be impressive?  Perhaps the guy, a poor farmer, had to scrape and salvage each tiny part, not because it wasn't available, but the nicest parts were difficult to find.  Maybe the suitcase is of a quality one of his status could never afford and he was dedicated to doing it.

Perhaps it's just a cultural celebration of one man's perseverance and has nothing, if little, to do with the actual results.

Maybe.  Maybe not.

Didn't realise that farming and inventing were mutually exclusive.

If only the Chinese would build it with non-cheap parts that'd guaranteed it won't be a death trap on wheels.

Boing Boing is now fixt and I was able to load the submitted link. Yup, the headline (and story) called him a farmer. And no, farming and inventing are not only "not mutually exclusive", they are mostly joined at the hip. Every day of farming usually requires some sort of nifty work-around to get things done.

I'm am so ashamed that I viciously attacked subby without cause and will now wander out to the woodshed and deal with myself in an appropriate manner.

Now let it go. . . .
