I am doomed. However, I was already aware of that fact. Nothing that I do will change my inevitable decline into senility, and no one around me will care. Even worse, the state of healthcare in this nation is purely profit-driven, meaning that my hopes for any effective treatments before I am too severely affected are nonexistent.

So much for Fark's long-range business model.

Look at some of the people around you that are perpetually happy all the time. They're already there!

Another journalist misreporting scientific findings. Correlation =! causation.

There should be a law mandating that reporters have at least a bachelor's degree in the scientific discipline they're reporting.

I came to make a similar remark.

My neighbor has a mutt that freaks me out--it is the happiest dog I have ever seen. It gets so joyfully excited at anything that it pees all over the place. It has to be brain damaged somehow.

It's on CNN, so it's not being cynical to be skeptical of this report.

I wonder if my mom is on her way there. She's always disbelieving me about really trivial things. Like, I'm sure that lobster covered lobster tail dish at Red Lobster couldn't possibly be $14.99, yes, there really is a giant moth in the house, no I didn't take any money out of your wallet, etc.

Maybe cynics are just more likely to vocalize their inner frustrations, which sound like dementia coming from an old person.

"Oh, old Frank Bagumity, he's always ranting and raving about something or other.  He probably just has dementia."  That's what they'll say about me when I'm 80.  The fact that there ARE kids who need to get the hell off my lawn, and that the food in the hospice DOES taste like regurgitated water buffalo droppings, and the male nurse with all the tribal face tattoos IS stealing my farking pain meds... well that's just old Frank Bagumpity ranting and raving again.  Pay him no nevermind.  Also, cool free pain meds in the cafeteria.  You should totally score some.

I had a dream last night that I had dementia.  It's all starting to make sense.

/Actually it terrified the shiat out of me and I was relieved when I woke up and realized I wasn't losing my mind.

Pragmatists are always cynics when the circumstances are deplorable.

That'll depend on who you talk to.  If they disagree with you, you're a cynic, but if they agree, you're a pragmatist.

I'm a cynic because I cannot bring myself to stuff my head in a tank of happy gas and ignore reality. If someday this causes me to become demented...meh.

Is exiting this crapsack world a few years earlier really such a bad thing?

Lenny_da_Hog: So much for Fark's long-range business model.

Nah.  Auto-pay accounts.  Convince folks to set up a reoccuring charge on their credit card, for a monthly subscription of TotalFark (or whatever, doesn't matter).  Offer a sightly lower cost, whatever it takes to entice them.  They go senile, forget to turn it off, charges roll in every month until eventually the account owner dies and the credit card gets shut down.  It's like printing money!

The cynicism test asks if the person agrees with statements like "Most people will use somewhat unfair reasons to gain profit or an advantage rather than lose it"; "I think most people would lie to get ahead"; and "It is safer to trust nobody."

Well, most people WILL use unfair methods to gain profit, especially to `get in someones good books` (social profit) or they would take credit for something somebody else has done.

I don`t agree with the last two though.
