They did, for some strange environmentalist.  But they did not change it for Memorial Day.  (Well they changed it for about an hour with a little tiny sort of patriotic icon, and quickly removed it).  Seems evil.

You just know some bigshot with severe OCD has been fuming about that slightly mis-oriented L for years and FINALLY got someone to take him or her seriously enough to fix it.

That's what that seems like.

Not the tribute logos, the (subtle) change was just to the traditional Google logo.

At least they chose the proactive approach, synergistically speaking of course.

This country has effectively shiat on it's veterans 364 days out of every year since it's inception, no big deal. But Google not changing it's logo for Memorial Day is the outrage.

This country pays a ton of respect to it's military.  The problem is that you can't eat respect.  The other problem is there is too damn many veterans, if we would think more about the human cost of military, perhaps we would fight less and have a smaller force.

So, we feed the veterns to the hungry to reduce their numbers and cost?

I started to read the story and thought, "who the hell would be autistic enough to notice something that incredibly minor?" and then I saw the word redditors and I understood completely. Those autistic-spectrum little ragevoters are adorable.

It is not that bad. We have Veterans Day too. That brings it down to 363 days. And Google does tend to release a Doodle for that holiday. So, it's all good, right?

The fact that anyone devoted significant time to the shifting of two letters by two pixels is one of the stupidest things ever.

This kind of bureaucracy drove my son from a similarly large technological behemoth. Despite the advanced technology that gets the headlines, it's still a huge bureaucracy where people get paid -- in this sector at least -- fabulous salaries for mind-numbing work. Apparently 1/3rd of his day was spent clearing his electronic mail inbox of the thousands of internally generated memos that came his way. And no supervisor objected!

I thought they changed their logo every week, or at least any time some minor historical personage or borderline trivial event unknown to the ignorant needed advertising.

I've written a greasemonkey script to get the old Logo back, does anyone want it?

2014-05-29 10:12:50 AM
Reminds me of when I worked for the now defunct Digital Equipment Corp (DEC) back in the 80's they spent hundreds of thousdands of dollars (Millions in today's dollars) to change thier logo. After months of research, high paid consultants reveiled the new logo: They changed the color from blue to maroon and moved a letter a few pixels.

It was a sign of how bad priorities and leadership became at that company.

I hope the person who first noticed this change is getting the mental health care they obviously require.
