She came to my college in 1994 to speak. Absolutely riveting presence. So long, Dr. Angelou, and thank you for your poetry.

And absolutely no one will be able to read her poetry correctly ever again.  Truey written in her voice and with a pace an meter only she could express out loud.

RIP.

Truly a loss.

Classy, classy lady.

I was fortunate enough to be able to take her seminar while I attended WFU.  She was a font of wisdom and insight into the soul.  Certainly a national treasure and will certainly be remembered.

2014-05-28 09:35:17 AM
RIP lady, I wasn't to keen on your poetry, but you were still pretty cool!

2014-05-28 09:35:19 AM
Terrible news. Condolences to her family, she was an amazing woman.

RIP

My understanding is that she's been in failing health for some time, but still, a loss for us all.

Who are they gonna get to speak at her memorial? How about Maya Ang--crap, nevermind.

I would hate to be the person who speaks at her funeral. No matter how good it is every single person will think that Maya would have said it better

The legacy of your existence will last for generations. May your sleep be soft and dreamless.

I enjoyed her poetry, and 86 is a darn good run.

*punches out of thread before RIP-tards arrive*

I don't usually cry when a celebrity dies, but this time is an exception. She was such a beautiful, wonderful, brilliant person. The world feels bleaker without her, but still brighter for her having been here. RIP, great lady.

Nebulous poetic nonsense. As usual, the opposite is true. Future generations will not remember how "you made them feel" ... they will only remember what you wrote and what you did.

Never heard of 'er. I'm going back to sleep.

That's how I always felt about her poetry, but then again I never read that much of it.  Maybe one of her fans will post something that changes my mind.

An American was backpacking across the highlands, when he came across a small village where he decided to spend the night.

Upon entering the local pub that evening for some drinks with the locals, he found himself in a conversation with one particularly drunk and indignant individual.

"Ya see that fence out there?" The old man asked the backpacker. "I built that fence with me own hands. But ya think they call me MacGregor the fence builder? No!"

"And that church out there. I hoisted the bell up to the top with me own hands. But ya think they call me MacGregor the church builder? No!"

And that bridge. I put it together stone by stone. But ya think they call me MacGregor the bridge builder? No!"

"But ya screw one goat..."

Uh yeah, I'm a techno-thriller junkie, and I'd like to know, is the B-2 bomber more detectible when it rains?

I'll always remember her describing a particular person as that white speck on the top of chicken-shiat. I read that 40 years ago, but it stuck with me as the perfect insult.

Sad: An incredible talent.

Allow me to be the first to bite and offer a resounding f*ck you.

Maya is caged no more. RIP gracious woman.

I don't possess the poetry gene, but I will take it as a given that she was good at it.

She was a class act and very well spoken. I have a black friend and he agrees.

So much THIS.  It wasn't just the poetry, it was the way she and only she could deliver it.  May her family be at peace.

No, no. She was in the Matrix. I'll never forget when she asked Neo if he wanted a cookie.

Probably quite a few people and I bet Bill Clinton is one, she wrote a poem for his inaguration and read it there. A long time later when I went to a lecture she gave she spoke about how freaked out about it she was - he asked her to write one only two weeks beforehand. It was wonderful.

I was thinking the same...just waiting for someone else to post it though.

Also I think it's worth pointing out that Maya Angelou wouldn't have engaged with trolls. Just saying.

I saw the goat's page on Facebook. There's apparently more to that story.
