A young man on his day off goes to the pool.

Scandalous.

He just went up a few notches in my opinion of him.

He's just having some fun after mini camp,. Lots of QB's do that their rookie year.
Just ask Matt Leinart and Mark Sanchez.

If you give me that kind of money, I promise to behave much, MUCH worse...

Cut him some slack, it hasn't even been a month since his football career ended.

I'm starting to warm up to him.

With Kyle Orton under center because Johnny Football is in an iron lung after his first game against the Ravens.

I'm more impressed that Gronk was able to leave the house without giving himself another season ending injury for once.

Hey, the season doesn't start for another three months.  What are we supposed to talk about, baseball?

Speaking of which, I knew the Brewers remarkable start wasn't going to last, but could they have at least kept my hopes up until the All Star break?

Can we go back to Michael Sam articles every day or two please. Im getting burnt out on only Manziel daily fluff stories while waiting for his career to start so it can fail. We need several ongoing players stories at once to make this NFL offseaspon soap opera interesting.

TEBOW. TEBOW TEBOW TEBOW.

I can see both sides.  Manziel's a young guy and a weekend in Vegas isn't the end of the world.  However, his biggest criticism is his immaturity, so if he was at all conscious of his image he'd tone it down a bit.

That all said, why does this guy get so much attention?

2014-05-28 12:04:31 PM
No big deal. It's not like he went during the bye week before a playoff game or anything.

True that. At this point in the season it almost makes more sense to have a daily thread with aggregated NFL updates. The only ones that seem to get greenlit are Manziel, Sam, and Cowboys.

He flew coach.

He had the middle seat.

Have fun Cleveland.

He should lock himself in a room with his playbook and an old-timey reel-to-reel for 2 months so a gaggle of idiots won't complain that he's acting immature by attending a party.

He had the audacity to not bother hide his thinly-veiled contempt for the NCAA and the "collegiate experience".

I'm no Manziel fan boy, but 95% of the hate he gets is exaggerated. He's just a rich kid boozehound, of which every university (public or private) across the country has several of, but the difference with him is that he also played football. Most rich kid boozehounds on college campuses don't play athletics and aren't on TV acting like the spoiled rich kid boozehounds they are.

Anti-Jebus?

Gronk is a 2X pro-bowler.

Manchild is a spoiled rich douche who hasn't do shiat in the NFL.  A couple of hours at church or on the golf course is a lot different than 2-3 days in vegas. He;s never been broke so the paychecks aren't a novelty for him. He's just an immature, "affluenza" infected rich kid who happened to be good at football. I think he's in for a quite a humbling once he actually gets regular season starts.

Let's see if I can do this...
Manziel is not doing the church going
Tebow is doing the church going
So Manziel is opposite of Tebow
Then that makes Manziel a football player I suppose.

If you're saying I agree with the criticism, you'd be wrong.

I'm just saying he already has an image problem and gets, albeit I think undeservedly, a lot of media attention.  While I can sympathize that he shouldn't give a shiat about the media getting bent out of shape over it, it's a slightly bigger problem if it affects his ability to get what he wants: a starting NFL QB gig.  I know he's with the Browns and they're destined to fail along with him, in my view he could help himself out by not trying to encourage negative publicity.

Not to rain on the parade, but Heisman Trophy winners, QBs especially, tend not to be the best NFL players.

It's the Browns.  Regardless of what he does they'll throw Hoyer out to the wolves for a few weeks before switching to Manziel once Hoyer crashes and burns.  If the coaching staff is making depth chart decisions based on media attention, then they are in worse shape than anyone thought.

Jesus this shiat again. The issue isn't that he spent a weekend partying, no one expects them to live like monks.

The issue is ONE of the questions about this future bust coming out of the draft was whether he was mature enough to play QB in the NFL or whether he only cared about being a quasi celebrity, future reality show contestant. Luckily he resolved that issue really quick.

The best part is the Browns are so farking incompetent they drafted this guy full well knowing he cared too much about being famous and then told him to tone it done a bit, act like a back up. So what does he do? Immediately ignores them and starts partying and making sure pics of it get all over social media because hey gotta build that Johnny Football brand yo! Good call, homeless dude. Good call.

Does anyone think Brian Hoyer was in Cancun partying like a stupid frat boy this weekend or was he concentrating on trying (likely in vain) to keep his job and stop the Browns from ditching him for Mr. Football? What about Wilson or Manning or Brady? Were they partying it up this weekend?

Maybe they were. But strangely there's no instagrams or tumblers or Facebooks of them partying like trust fund kids.

No, I got what you're saying, my problem is with the idea that going to a Vegas pool party is "encouraging" negative publicity.  Or that we should even give any credence to what those critics are saying.

Regardless, the fact that those critics exist and need to fill the 24-hour a day sports media monster with something is largely irrelevant.  The Browns didn't draft him to keep him on the bench because Skip Bayless or some other jackass wants to knock him over a complete non-issue.  The critics here are wrong, and we need to stop listening to bullshiat about "raised eyebrows" or anything else they do to stir up controversy where there is none.  And we certainly need to stop making it Johnny Manziel's job to give a fark about it.

As for Manziel's NFL future, he may crash and burn as a professional QB, but it won't be because he had some cocktails with several young ladies at a Vegas pool party on Memorial Day.

Probably because there aren't many people who would recognize Brian Hoyer if he was the only other person in the room.

If a highly-publicized Heisman-winning QB went to church, nobody would say anything?  If only there were a recent example that we could use to examine this hypothesis...

Well Brady and Manning are over 35 and Manziel is 21, and there were pictures of Brady from the Kentucky Derby or something a few weeks ago.  Cant say much for Wilson, but Kaepernick just had an issue involving drinking and weed.  He's a 21 year old kid whose been very succesful at what he does.  I think he's allowed to blow off some steam in Vegas.
