They could have payed it forward by telling Costco to pass it along to the Children's Miracle Network. Costco accepts donations on behalf does alot of other work for them and they are a highly respected charity that does alot of good.

Welcome to Costco.

I love you.

'Anonymous' AF wife...

Firefighters....so far, still the majority; if not all, are men...

I think I see a pattern that has been repeated in tens of thousands of 'Dear Penthouse...' letters...

Yay! thing is, those firemen not only save your @ss, they go back in and save your farkin pets too. And give them CPR if needed.

Quite a few guys in the neighborhood I grew up in became fireman. Luckily, except for one who was hurt and was disabled, all of them made it to retirement .

Most of them do. While they routinely go into some crazy situations, they are usually VERY smart about it. Not saying they dont have big brass ones, just saying the state of fire science is amazing.

Very nice. Random acts of kindness in the news are a breath of fresh air. My son will be going to the fire academy soon.  He's got a kind, compassionate heart.  It will be a perfect fit for him, career-wise.

Also, it doesn't take much for the He Man Woman Haters to come out, does it?  Unpleasant assholes.

I hear ya. These guys started in the 70s, and it's scary having so many friends with that occupation.

Submitter capitalized the first letter in Firefighters, Memorial Day and Costco, but not Air Force.

Why does he hate America?

this beautiful  kind of thing on a smaller or larger scale happens everyday, many times a day, globally.

despite what Faux News and World Wide Haters want you to believe,

it's what makes us human I think, this "acting on impulse for the good of others" thing we do.

Yay us.

Depends on where you're at, many areas still have volunteer departments that are completely unpaid. And while paid firefighters don't do too bad, it's still not a real high paying job in most places.

Fine.  You save yourself out of a burning building, then go back in and save your kids, then go back in again and save your pets.

Well they call me the fireman, that's my name.
Making my rounds all over town, putting out old flames.
Well everybody'd like to have a what I got.
I can cool 'em down when they're smold'ring hot.
I'm the fireman, that's my name.

Last night they had a bad one a mile or two down the road.
Well my buddy walked out and left his woman burning out of control.
Well I was down there in about an hour or so.
With a little mouth to mouth she was ready to go.
I'm the fireman, that's my name.

Got a fire engine red - T - bird automobile.
In a minute or less I can be dressed fit to kill.
I work 24 on, 24 off.
When they get too hot, they just give me a call.
I'm the fireman, that's my name.

Obviously paying AF personnel too much.

2014-05-28 10:05:38 AM
Kind of suprised firefighters don't get to expense their food they eat at work. I'm glad the article mentioned that they did have to pay for it, otherwise the gesture would have lost something.

Here's the thing: If you receive 50 bucks as a "random" congratulatory donation, then donate 50 bucks to someone else as a "random" congratulatory donation, you both get to list "donated 50 bucks to a deserving serviceperson" on your attaboy resume, even though the net result is 0.

Honestly, I've never trusted the anonymous air force.  They always seem so impersonal.

2014-05-28 10:35:40 AM
So, it's still being paid for by your tax dollars.

Really? What about missing the whole conjuntion juntion in that sentence? I totality forgot one. It should have been -"Costco accepts donations on behalf of them, and does...". That derailed the entire flow of the sentence.

/must be just a very particular pet peeve, alot of people don't realize it's bad form.

2014-05-28 02:31:44 PM
Deep inside, aren't we all retired Air Force wives?

CADMonkey79: So do firefighters have to pay for their food/supplies while on duty?

Absolutely. Where I work, a portion of our union dues goes into paying for coffee, condiments, a few light snacks to keep around (peanut butter, crackers) and butter. It also pays the cable bill. One of the guys brings in dinner, and the cost of the food is split among the crew.

The "concerned taxpayers" scream bloody murder about a $400 line item in the budget labeled "meal reimbursement," which is there for when a guy already at work gets ordered to work overtime the following shift. He doesn't have the chance to go home, so he doesn't have the opportunity to plan his own meal. He gets $7 per meal unable to plan for. "Why are we paying for their food," they screech. I can't imagine what they'd say if they had to buy 25 guys 3 meals a day every day.

I might not have been as scathing but I came in to point out that when you sign it with any form of identification it is no longer anonymous. There was a reason she signed it, I'll leave it at that.
