Technically.... One could say that solar panels ARE draining energy from the sun. The sun's internal processes fuse hydrogens into heliums and so on; there-by releasing tons of energy in the forms of light, heat and radiation. This reduces the amount of hydrogen available to the sun; which, eventually, fuses all of its fuel into iron and other heavy elements. This process sometimes results in a catastrophic explosion called a supernova.

/ yes, I realize that I truncated a lot of the process; but, I wasn't going to describe the ~30 billion year-ish life cycle of stars

// no, solar panels aren't causing the sun to deteriorate faster

/// even if they were; the sun will last another ~20 billion years. What's 1% of 20 billion? Not very much

If that takes a few days, at least it's better than the several lefties I've seen who have already pounced on it as "look how dumb those teabaggers are for this bad science!" Haven't seen a right-winger fall for it yet.

(Saw this on Facebook, where one of my Farker friends posted it just a while ago, and one guy went for it hook, line, and sinker. "And people out there really swallow this garbage?!!?" Yes, that's an actual quote, punctuation and all.)

It's a sunny day here today, so I am going to gather up all the jars and boxes and containers I can find and fill them with sunshine.  That way when the libs finally destroy the sun I will have plenty left for myself.  Their screaming and wailing outside my compound will be music to my ears. I might barter some of my sunshine for dental work, or more gold, but otherwise I am keeping it for myself.  Suck it, libs.  The great catastrophe is coming and I have plenty of ammo.

And technically one would STILL be wrong. They aren't draining anything. The process goes on wih or without them. They just collect product of it afterwards.

Sooo...if the solar panels drain the Sun's energy, the Sun's output will be reduced, eh?

So, since the global warming skeptics (who say global warning isn't happening, anyways..), blame the "not it's not happening" warming on the solar output. **

Sooo:
Given that solar panels drain the Sun's output;
and given Global Warming is caused by increased solar output,
then deployment of solar panel in large numbers will reduce or even reverse global warming.,

(** Note: they also say "Climate's changed before, It's not bad, There is no consensus, It's cooling, Models are unreliable, Temp record is unreliable, Animals and plants can adapt, It hasn't warmed since 1998, Antarctica is gaining ice, Ice age predicted in the 70s, CO2 lags temperature, Climate sensitivity is low, We're heading into an ice age, Ocean acidification isn't serious, Hockey stick is broken, Climategate CRU emails suggest conspiracy, Hurricanes aren't linked to global warming, Al Gore got it wrong, Glaciers are growing, It's cosmic rays, 1934 - hottest year on record, It's freaking cold!, Extreme weather isn't caused by global warming, Sea level rise , Increasing CO2 has little to no effect, Oceans are cooling, It's a 1500 year cycle, Human CO2 is a tiny % of CO2 emissions, IPCC is alarmist, Water vapor is the most powerful greenhouse gas, Polar bear numbers are increasing, CO2 limits will harm the economy, It's not happening, Greenland was green, Greenland is gaining ice, CO2 is not a pollutant, CO2 is plant food, Other planets are warming, Arctic sea ice has recovered, There's no empirical evidence, There's no correlation between CO2 and temperature, We're coming out of the Little Ice Age, It cooled mid-century, CO2 was higher in the past, Global warming stopped in 1998, 1995, 2002, 2007, 2010, ????, It warmed before 1940 when CO2 was low, Satellites show no warming in the troposphere, It's aerosols, It's El Niño, 2009-2010 winter saw record cold spells, It's a natural cycle, Mt. So take their claims with a grain of salt.

What Barton actually said was dumber:

"Wind is God's way of balancing heat. Wind is the way you shift heat from areas where it's hotter to areas where it's cooler. That's what wind is. Wouldn't it be ironic if in the interest of global warming we mandated massive switches to energy, which is a finite resource, which slows the winds down, which causes the temperature to go up? Now, I'm not saying that's going to happen, Mr. Chairman, but that is definitely something on the massive scale. I mean, it does make some sense. You stop something, you can't transfer that heat, and the heat goes up. It's just something to think about."
