17 feet deep is deep enough if you know what you are doing but if he went to into shock from breaking a bone, that ends things very quickly.

Why the hell would a 50 year old man be jumping into water from 100 feet?  At that height you're entering the height range that kills regardless of how deep the water.

Too bad there's no video, because this would have killed on Tosh.0.

If this bears any resemblance to me stage diving, I assume all the water quickly got out of his way.

We have the ol Hamilton Pool near Austin,a collapsedlimestone cave, where in the '70s, and on private land, you pay the farmer a few bucks to go through the barbed wire, and jump off the top, a bit over a hundred feet, there were a few rocks there, occasionally, you'd hear of someone hitting one. A few people paralyzed, a couple killed. This was before the rancher gave it to the state. It's slowly undergone "improvements, making it nicer, or as I tell my kids "Gay it up".NTTAWWT. If you swim to the center, you can try to swim to the bottom, but I've never touched it. you get water dripping off the limestone, that's really cold.
As I've been told about rappeling "it's not the fall that kills you, but the sudden stop at the end". It was a lot of fun, until it wasn't.
BTW, the Six flags reference was funny as Ph^ck. I really laughed out loud when I read it.
Alcohol NOT involved. Really?

What Apache Lake may look like...not sure where he found a 100' right cliff above the water.

If video games have taught me correctly, he should be fine. You can fall any distance into chest-high water or deeper without suffering injury.

I concur. That is probably one of the primary contributors to his death.

OMG! Is she okay?

I can't believe they would make her dive into an empty pool just to make an anti-drug PSA!

And what does that have to do with drugs, anyway?

Poorest use of the sad tag I've seen in a while.

There's nothing sad about what happened to that idiot.

Well, to be fair, they did pay their two bits to see a high diving act...

Alcohol not involved and not from the "hey y'all, watch this!" part of the country? I would have gone with a Strange tag.

That's exactly what I had pictured.

I also pictured a water balloon filled with red ink and dropped from a height onto a concrete floor.
