(KMOV St. Louis)   A six-year-old Chicago boy probably saved his ten-year-old friend's life by helping her get away from a man who tried to kidnap her. "The only way she got away is because I kicked him in the back of the leg and the outside of his leg"   (kmov.com) divider line 69

That's pretty ballsy trying to abduct someone right in front of their house, in what I assume was in broad daylight. Hope they catch this guy quick, if he'll try it in that situation then no kid is safe.

Tough little kid.  Good on him.  Most kids his age are taught to not confront but to run for help, by which time his friend would have been driven away by the abductor.

I'm not sure if kicking the guy was the smartest thing Kaylen could have done.  A really nasty SOB could have just backhanded him into the middle of next week and still gotten the girl.  But his bravery worked this time. kudos!

Well, the kidnapper hasn't been identified so not so ballsy. The kids were unsupervised so he took the opportunity. I thought I read a story on Fark recently that someone tried to kidnap a child in front of the parent.

That's why my parents taught us to kick the balls, especially my sister was taught that.  I wished the kid did kick the attempted abductors balls into next week.  When you're small, you gotta know how to go for the dirtiest shots.

Yes, this is legally called "Duty of Retreat", and it is the preferred method of upper-middle-class whites living in suburbs

A striking majority (North of 80%) occur with in a quarter mile of the place the child was last seen.

Hell, a few tv specials have been done on kids being abducted by actors on a busy Street in broad daylight and most people just keep on walking.

You're right. There is no such thing as "fighting fair" when you're going up against an adult attacker. Aim for the balls, if he picks you up, try to poke his eyes out.

It is essential to teach kids how to play nice on the playground and not be bullies and not get into fights.  It is also imperative that we teach them that, when the situation calls for it, be absolutely ruthless.

The moral of the story, I guess: teach your kids if someone comes at them to grab them (not just strangers, ANYONE they don't have your permission to be going with at that time) to get in the first shot and run like hell.

There is no such thing as fighting fair, period, when you're being attacked. Creepy guy approaches you on the mall parking lot? FIGHT DIRTY. A key to the eyeball is a particularly effective deterrent to an attempted rapist.

It's called "the element of surprise." The guy wasn't expecting the 6 year old to kick him, so even if it didn't really hurt or anything, it startled him long enough to make him lose his grip on the girl and give the kids a chance to run.

99 percent of nonfamily abduction victims are returned alive, 90 percent within the first 24 hours.

but it's more exciting to pretend that the kid probably saved his friend's life, i guess.

Fun fact. I know some interracial couples.

white male leaving a store with screaming child of another race == security gets involved
Non white male leaving a store with a screaming child of another race == the police are called
Woman drags screaming child of another race out of a store == no reaction
2 men drag a screaming child of a different race out of a store == look at the adorable gay men.

I'm calling bullsh!at.

There's 5-6 of these every year in Australia.

All basically "kid outsmarts, outfights grown man". I started hearing the Benny Hill theme half way thru reading this latest one from Melbourne.

She dodges. She weaves....

The girl managed to dodge her attacker and move towards another part of the school where she watched her attacker leave through the front entrance.

"She moved around him, she tried a couple of times, and then she moved under him and got between him and the wall," Detective Bieser said.

....She crawled between his legs???!! Hahaha, yeah right.

Stranger is a different category in they study. Stranger abductions are highly lethal. Non family refers to someone with some connection to the kid.

Dammit Kaylen,

It was supposed to be the surprise getaway to Beyoncé's new all-girl sorority party and YOU INTERFERED!!  There was going to be cake and soda and popcorn and a pony (actually, I think the phone call said "donkey show" but I sure they meant pony)  I was supposed to wait outside on the curb in front of my house for the 96.6 FM Free Candy Concert Van to roll by and pick me up.

Now I will never get to meet Beyoncé. . .

Not as much as a good, dead-center ball-shot, but most guys know instinctively to guard against those.
