She wasn't an incumbent.. far from it, before the overthrow in Kiev, she was in -prison-.

So, can anyone summarize what this means, politically speaking, for Ukraine? All I see is that yet another election was purchased by an oligarch.

Just means they have learned well from us. We still have former poors winning elections here. How do you gain the trust of others if you aren't already incredibly successful?

It means that the social services will be cut along with taxes on the rich.

Jobs will then poor into the country.

Short version: he's pro-Western, does not recognize the annexation of Crimea and will attempt to forge closer ties with Europe.
Long version: it honestly doesn't matter as the separatists, particularly those in the eastern regions, don't recognize the election anyway, and as far as they are concerned, nothing has changed from yesterday to today. What can be hoped is that the rest of Ukraine solidifies behind the results (with turnout around 40%, this is a stretch of a hope) so that the central gov't has internal AND external legitimacy again (a lot of this mess is due to the belief that the gov't formed after the ouster of the president was illegitimate) so that the clashes with separatists are more police-action-y and less civil-war-y.

Dissapointed there we not more Willy Wonka references.

The "Tell me more..." meme.
The "You get nothing! Good day sir!" meme.

At least the references I did get were Gene Wilder and not Johnny Dep.
