What a great story :)

Why is the second thing "news"?

DeWayne Mann: Why is the second thing "news"?

Because most people conflate the quality (in terms of record) of the Astros and the quality of their farm system. Then again, the Astros have basically turned their everyday lineup into super-high triple A. Their 40-man roster according to ESPN only has 8 guys 30 or older versus 16 25 or younger. Granted, you probably already knew this, so this is more for others who might stumble across the thread.

Yeah, I've been beating the "Astros have an awesome farm system" drum for a couple of years. But that's a good explanation for anyone else.

But on the other hand, maybe it's "news" because, with a great system, it's surprising that a 4th round pick from last year started so slow? Then again he only hit 4 in 74 games last season so it's not like he's a powerhouse...and he'shiatting .307/.413/.425 so he's not really hitting poorly.

...Just weird, really.  I'm over-thinking it, of course.

That's what happens when you sign away the top man from the Cardinals, though, so it's not like it's some huge surprise. Also, that slash line looks like a softball running slaphitter's numbers. Good eye and plate discipline but can't hit for power whatsoever.

It would be an awesome slashline for a Dee Gordon or Billy Hamilton type.

Also doesn't hurt to have Kevin Goldstien as your head of scouting either.

Personally, I'm more interested in Mike Fast & Colin Wyers, but I'm a stats guy.

I enjoyed listening to him and Jason Parks on the Up and In Podcast when they were with Baseball Prospectus. I would love to do scouting but I'll stick with coaching.

I've always heard good things about that, but I can't listen to Podcasts.

He was great on twitter though. #weirdbaseball

Do you have a smartphone? Download the beyondpod app... You can search for them and download then onto your phone. I have a Droid.

How I miss some #weirdbaseball. I've had many trips to the gas station while at work to properly participate in #weirdbaseball. I would always upset me when people would misuse that term on twitter. I felt like it was my duty to educate them on the proper meaning. It would also amuse me when people would tweet at Kevin to gain approval for ice cream substitutes, most times being denied approval.

Nah, it's not a technological thing. My brain just, like, doesn't process them. I'm the same with audio books. Either I have to constantly rewind, or I miss out on like 80% of the info.

NO FROZEN YOGURT. GET ICE CREAM.
