"Parts of the Imperial Palace were opened to the public for the first time on Saturday.

Three groups of 46 people-chosen by lottery from more than 100,000 who applied-got a look at the Seiden Matsu no Ma State Function Hall, Homeiden State Banquet Hall, where banquets are held for visiting foreign heads of state, and Chowaden Reception Hall.

The tours, which will be held again on Sunday, are being held as part of Emperor Akihito's 80th birthday celebrations. Another round of tours is scheduled for October."

Stayed there once. Convenient spot on the Strip and I love the chintzy decor, but place was barely holding together with glue I think.

For the twitter generation it's a freakin encyclopedia britannica.

Besides, considering what's the media have turned into, it's to the best. At least there is no place for a lot of lies and propaganda.

They found a body in the stairwell the last time I stayed there. I have not been back since the renovation, I am sure they had to burn that carpet off the floor.

Note:  anyone can get into the main palace grounds one day a year during the new year's festivities.  It's crowded.  Also, jogging around it at night can be confusing the first few times.
