ArkAngel: I haven't cared about the NBA post-season since the Blazers lost to the Bulls

I haven't watched a single game of basketball since the Original Celtics won the 1928 American Basketball League championship.  Back when guys actually knew how to shoot, back when guys actually knew how to play defense.  There isn't a single NBA team that could have matched up with Joe Lapchick.  At 6'5, Joe Lapchick was one of the tallest players of his day, effortlessly and harmlessly laying the basketball over the opposing players, and in doing so, he made sure permanent damage was not caused to the hoop structures located above the playing field.  In one of these games, Joe Lapchick hit a jump shot that was later measured at 17 feet from the basket.  It was the greatest shot of its day.  "The longest goal shot in the history of basketball", they called it.  The film of the shot was disseminated through "YouTube", which is what we called the movie theaters of the time, because in order to get in, you had to walk through a tube-shaped entryway.  That was to keep the poors out.  But once the all-black New York Renaissance began to play the Original Celtics to close games, I saw where the game was heading towards.  The way they moved their hips in the pivot was incredibly offensive to my sensibility.  It used to be that you would ask the defender permission to take the shot.  However, the Renaissance did not care about this, and attempted to guard the shot, even if you said that "I am entitled to shoot the ball into the goal basket."  That was the last time I ever watched basketball, and quite frankly, you are a casual if you only "quit on the sport" in 1992.

Michael Jordan never would have scored 67 points I the era of the peach basket. That was real basketball.

We just need to finish the game. Hell finish the quarters

What was that series?

Definitely pulling for the Heat, but I can't see any foul by PG on that play.

robsul82: 17-4 Indiana, 3:42 1st

I like the start but last 2 minutes of each quarter the Pacers fall apart.

2014-05-24 08:59:00 PM
What the hell, Hill? You came from the Spurs. They drill it into you to take the open corner three. So do you take it when you get it? Nope.

Yep.  Definitely have that in mind myself.  Gotta close out strong.

He is not known for his offense or his assists...wait...why is he a point guard again?

Roy Hibbert, gigantic man of mystery. It's like he was affected by the space aliens from "Space Jam" and had his basketball ability and now he has them back. Thanks Michael Jordan, for that.

For the same reason that I never played for the school team: Height. You get pigeonholed into a particular role (1-5) based upon your size with the assumption that you can develop the skill set (i.e. you can't coach size).

Also, helluva makeup call for making the double technical call.

"Had his basketball ability stolen" that is.

how does the ref 3 feet away miss that foul on lebron?

Lebron has never rouled anyone ever. He has only been wrongfully accused of fouling.

WHY THE HELL IS SCOLA IN THE GAME?????

2014-05-24 09:08:21 PM
See? Even when he falls Lebron has to have been pushed.

2014-05-24 09:08:26 PM
And now some cheap fouls to get the Heat back in the game. So embarrassing.

SquiggsIN: So lebron doesn't get called for a foul and then gets George a foul because he tripped on his foot

Never seen a Heat series before?

Won't be long until the Heat fans show up and complain that people complain about the refs favoring their superstars.

Remember last year Wade leading with his knee and Pacers being called for catching it with their face?

Reminiscent of any number of old Jordan Bulls games vs. the Pacers, or the Kobe Lakers against the Kings and Blazers. It's just a fact of the game. Star treatment bugs the hell out of me, but not enough to make me not watch anymore (unless it's the Lakers, in which case I don't).

/and hey, thanks for the solid.

You are welcome.

Stars get special treatment. That's always been the NBA. Imagine Wilt during his 100 point game probably would have fouled out on offensive fouls if he had been called like regular players.

Look, shiat like this doesn't help your cause. None of the Heat fans have come in to complain about the foul calls. IAmRight hasn't even shown up to troll Heat haters. Further, despite all the star calls that guys like LeBron and Wade get, Indiana is actually winning the foul calls/foul shots battle so far in this series. In fact, despite your biatching about the calls so far in this game, Indiana is winning the foul calls battle tonight.

Ooh since there's finally an NBA thread again can anyone tell me what the hell the Grizzlies owner is doing getting rid of head coaches that get you 50+ wins two seasons in a row and cleaning out the FO?

Exactly what is his endgame here because I don't know how the hell you sell that to a fan base or guys like Randolph that have options coming up.

2014-05-24 09:26:42 PM
So pacers are outplaying them in every facet of the game. In what way will they lose this one?

2014-05-24 09:27:07 PM
That block came out of nowhere. Good recovery by the Pacers though.

2014-05-24 09:28:15 PM
Indiana stretching it out again. The lead, that is. It looks like other parts of the their bodies are already sufficiently stretched out.

If you don't mind reading Bill Simmons' work,  http://grantland.com/features/the-nba-simmons-self-mailbag/ .

TL;DR is that the owner is starting to assert his influence rather than just letting his GM do his thing. Might be attempting to get Thibs from Chicago.

same question for golden state

Apparently Mark Jackson is crazier behind the scenes than he is in public.

Easy answer for Golden State. Mark Jackson isn't ready to get the team to take the next step, for many reasons. Nobody knows whether or not Steve Kerr is going to do better, but moving on from Jackson was the right move. Management is otherwise stable in GS.

I was thinking of that series earlier. As much as I like Paul George, it was Reggie Miller who stepped up his game in the playoffs. George stays the same.

Reggie the best one dimensional player ever.

Lebron is great at finding people in the paint when he drives. And wade is great at being the guy to get those feeds

Regression to the mean within this game. The Heat are only shooting 36.4% from the field versus 57.7% for the Pacers. Do you really think that either team will continue playing at this clip? Also, the Pacers tend to make very poor decisions with the ball. Case and point these last 2 possessions with the bad pass and the strip.

End of the quarter. Elite teams dominate. Pacers falter.
