I always hated the inconvenience of having to go out to get quadruple my daily limit of sodium in one sitting. I think it's great that now it can come to me.

I'll be damned if 1979 isn't 35 years ago. I don't even know if Friday's is in San Francisco. I remember the potato skins from my past life in Michigan.

I would advise them to stay away from San Francisco or at least the Tenderloin with their plan for free food giveaways. The churches that daily give out free meals have lines that go around the block. Even when Ben & Jerry's has free ice cream giveaway days, the lines must take hours...for what, something that might cost $4 or so?

THE ECONOMY IN TURMOIL Workers in San Bruno, San Mateo, Cupertino restaurants stunned by Florida owner's move

Tom Abate, Chronicle Staff Writer | December 17, 2008

Research shows the Bush Recession killed Friday's near SF. Remembering that Benghazi is still worae than 9-11 and the war on Iraq and how bad Bush left the economy in 2008.

I would advise staying away from the tenderloin for other reasons...

I wouldn't call this a "fail".  It sounds like a good idea, actually.  If the free samples are good, it might drive a few customers to their restaurants.  That might be a big "if", but the point remains.

I dunno how they will pack enough batteries on the truck. Freezers and microwaves use a lot of power.

At first I was going to go on about how easy it is to generate power from a vehicle. Then the joke hit me and I got a good chuckle.

"Pre-prepared" food then placed on trucks? Isn't that how Gordon Ramsay got in trouble a few years back, pre-preparing his meals and transporting them by truck?

I'm almost expecting Guy Fieri to jump out of one of those and yell 'hey, bro, want some jalapeno poppers?!?" (where in I promptly kick him square in the balls)

I haven't eaten there in a while, since the one nearest to me closed three years ago. But I used to enjoy their potato skins.

Ended up driving by one yesterday, so I decided to stop in.

Holy crap, those things are disgusting now, where they used to be baked, now they're fried. It was like eating greasy charcoal briquettes. But with bacon.

Never underestimate peoples willingness to stand in a line when something is free. Our local Golden Coral gives away a free meal to all veterans on veterans day every year, I wen't once and the line stretched all the way to the back of the parking lot. I stood in it for like 15 minutes and never moved an inch. I got back in my car and left, no free steak is worth that.

I prefer businesses adapting to the competition rather than using their money to turn the government against them.

There was a big fuss in the local govt about food trucks and why our city didn't have them but the neighboring town did. The chamber of commerce flat out told me they don't want change and existing businesses shouldn't have to compete with what amount to smarter businessmen, especially those from out of town.

It's the law in many places that the food must be prepared in a stationary kitchen (commissary) inspected by the health department.

I think you answered yourself one of the many problems towns and cities have with food trucks: health inspections.  Add to that: where to allow them to park, traffic/safety problems, idling for hours creating pollution, collecting taxes/permits, and the legitimacy of allowing one business to just pull up in front of another and block it out,

I think they understand perfectly. They see a trend, and the ability to capitalize on that trend.
