As with all Steve King threads, it must be noted that he is the man who, when defending the practice of dog fighting, claimed that it was legal to impregnate a minor, kidnap her from the playground, transport her across state lines to force her to have an abortion, and return her to the playground.

Senate has already passed an immigration reform bill.  This is what the House is refusing to even discuss:

In an important sense, King is absolutely right in suggesting that his posture on this issue is perfectly at home in today's GOP. While most House Republicans don't share King's outsized views of immigrants (remember the cantaloupe-calved drug-hauling DREAMers?), for all practical purposes, the position of many Republicans right now is that the only acceptable policy response to the immigration crisis is maximum deportations from the interior.

Surely that's hyperbole. ..

I've been making the case that when it comes to immigration reform, John Boehner is a feckless coward who, caught between two bad political choices, is content to defer action indefinitely while engaging in empty excuse-making to save face. Thankfully, I don't have to make that case anymore. John Boehner is making it for me.

Our current immigration policy is getting ridiculous. When my great great great grand parents immigrated in 1890; all they had to do to immigrate was show up. Now? It's a 15 year process; involving a lawyer and, subjectively, lots of money.

/ Personally; I think we should background check 'em, get a mug shot, print them and let them go on about their business. But, that would destroy a lot of do nothing government jobs

I was going to say something about Schumer using Tea Party tactics, refusing to discuss this thing until this thing has been discussed. But King had no this thing.

Further unmasking this obsession as a poor excuse for repeatedly killing immigration reform is the fact that the comprehensive immigration reform bill passed by the Senate last year, which Boehner refuses to bring up for a vote, has appropriated close to $40 billion dollars for further border security measures.

Not until either of the two parties can get the majority in both house and senate along with the presidency.  Then we'll either see a bigger border fence with so many hurdles that becoming a citizen will be nearly impossible, unless white and christian, or we'll see an actual reform plan that will streamline the process and set clear regulations that make it possible for all people who would like move to the US to have a reasonable shot at that oppurtunity should they be able to meet the requirements.

Rapmaster2000: Is anything ever going to happen?

Obama has already prioritized deportations so that the focus is on criminals and not breaking apart families.  There's also more removals happening at the border than ever before so when you hear Republicans bellyaching about how the President can't be trusted to enforce the borders you should look at them like they just farted in your face.

Schumer has also recently said that the Republicans have until some time in July to do something or Obama will act again.  I have no idea what specific further actions they are intimating at.

The Senate has passed their bill (see above).  It's up to the House and Boehner can't touch it in an election year and won't touch it because it risks his Speakership.  IMO, this is the perfect time to put their feet to the fire, especially as (also see links above) the Republican front man for Immigration Reform is Steve "Cataloupe Calves" farking King!!!  Good god, yes, let him talk more about immigration!  Everywhere and anywhere he wants!  The ever increasing Hispanic vote will go to Dems for decades.

This is the same immigration issue since the beginning of time.  I'm sure the Republicans would do the same if they could.  You just can't find that many rich asshole immigrants.

Our current immigration policy wastes a ton of money.  Implementing a more open system with a streamlined path to citizenship, including amnesty for those already here, would create a ton of jobs to process all of the applications and help guide people through the system.  Plus, it would raise revenue by legitimizing millions of people who are currently working under the table so that they could pay taxes and fully participate in society.

As an added bonus it would help raise wages.  Removing the threat of deportation from undocumented laborers would allow them to demand the minimum wage (which of course should also be raised) and the same workplace safety and quality of life regulations that everyone else currently enjoys.  By bringing everyone into the system the black market pool of sub-minimum-wage unregulated labor will dry up.

That's too complicated for King and his ilk in the House.  Basically, they don't want any immigration bill that can't be summarized by these nine words:

Round 'em up.
Ship 'em back.
Keep 'em out.

I heard the other day that Eric Cantor was initially in favor of some kind of immigration reform, even if only a DREAM Act sort of change.  Then he got a Tea Party challenger for even that tiny amount of sanity, so now he's against allowing debate in the House on the subject.. but his challenger still calls him a RINO betrayer.

Which is happening at a record pace, yet these same Republicans accuse the President and the Democrats of being "weak on immigration".  And the people who vote for them eat it up.

I'm fully convinced that if Jesus ran as a Democrat and Satan as a Republican, the "holier than thou" Republican base would vote for Satan.  Probably because Satan looks like the kind of guy you could have a beer with, while that Dimmy-crap looks like a deadbeat hippie.
