This makes me sad because the rangers will still finish above the mariners even with half their team on the dl.

Huh, I remember saying I wasn't a fan of the Rangers acquiring him in a pre-season fark thread.  I was promptly smacked down.  How'd he end up doing this year?

I hope Price gets his life back together, both physically and emotionally.

That being said, as a 45 year fan of the Tigers I'm thinking that trade worked out pretty OK.

That is all on JD.  Buying broken goods is a gm no no.  Well, Mitch Moreland's future is secure at 1st.  Some guy at 2nd, Elvis at SS, Adrian at 3rd, and three dudes from the Ft. Worth Cats who can throw the ball all the way from the mound to the plate to go with Yu and Colby.  God, what a MASH unit.  Predicting 15 games out by July. 20 by Sept.

Doubt that. I have the Mariners pitching in my FL, and they're very good. They've gotten a couple hitters this season, and the Rangers have just had to replace Prince Fielder with Mitch Moreland.

Mike Olt hits the ball a ton when he does make contact. He's young, he'll figure out major league pitching eventually.

Wait.

So the Rangers beat the Tigers 9-2 today.

Farking baseball, keep on being weird.

Isn't Fielder still costing Detroit $30 million to play in Texas? That's still a bargain, getting rid of that albatross of a contract.

Ugh. This season sucks so hard. Really wish they hadn't traded Kinsler in the first place (to be fair he did whine a lot about moving positions)

Could have kept Nelson Cruz but J.D. was mad at him.

I get that there aren't generally physicals done in baseball but for a contract that big you'd think they would have made an exception.

Did we really think Fielder was broken, though?  He hadn't missed a game in like five years, right?

He'd also started to turn things around lately.  Average-wise, if not slugging-wise, at least.

Tough shiate. As a Sox fan, we pride our pitching, and that funky sideways delivery is the pride of the south side. Hope Abreu returns and learns a thing or two about swinging at junk.

Made the Yankees look like chumps tonight. Six innings of shutout, one-hit ball with ten (10!) Ks.

...what? Nearly every time a player is signed or traded they have a physical done before it's official. Especially in the offseason.

2014-05-22 11:06:26 PM
Hey, do you guys remember during today's game when our center fielder got injured & Leonys Martin had to come in for him, even though he was still kinda injured, but it had to be him because there was literally no one else? And then like an hour later, we had a press conference where JD told us no more Prince & Profar would be out another 2 or 3 months?

14 players on the DL.

cfreak: /Rangers fan from back when they really sucked

We really don't have to go back that far to get to that place. How quickly we become spoiled.

I keep looking for the picture of Hanover Fist's disembodied arm holding the orb of evil from Heavy Metal, because that's what I imagine happening to Chris Sale's arm with his farked up delivery mechanics. Unfortunately, my google-fu keeps coming up empty.

/plenty of nice boobie stills from Heavy Metal appear though

The Rangers DL is is slated to finish 4th in the AL West, followed by the Rangers active roster.

That was what was reported as being the norm.

Either way they didn't do one on Prince.

Well, when the deal was first reported, every source said it was pending a physical. If they're saying that they didn't do one then, then they're either covering for having a crappy doctor or they're saying they just got super lazy.

Either way, that's not the norm.

I like Prince, I liked him as a Tiger and it was sad to see him go. But I don't miss his batting slumps, his base running was terrible and he couldn't slide, and ultimately that contract was absurd. I do hope Dombrowski can find someone to buy up the last half of Cabrera's contract when that time comes..

Get well soon, Prince, you played a lot of consecutive games, take a rest and then get back to hitting balls into the parking lot.

There was no physical. That is about as stupid as it gets when making a 198 Million dollar investment.  JD and Wash are gone.  Maybe not right away, but this will take em both down.

This. I saw Prince hit two homers against the Braves his next-to-final year as a Brewer. That was also Braun's worst game of his career: 0fer5 and lost a pop fly in the Georgia night. JJ Hardy was pointing and screaming at Braun and Braun just stared up and held both arms out like a fledging trying to take flight. Ball landed seventy feet in front of him.
Brewers still won.

Let's clear this up.  What I read yesterday was that the Rangers did a physical, but they did not do a more thorough CT scan on the neck area that may have identified this problem since Prince showed no signs of injury in that area in the previous 5 years.

What Jon Daniels is claiming is that when the trade was agreed to, since Prince is ALWAYS healthy and never misses any time (and since Kinsler seemed healthy), the two teams simply exchanged medical information and left it at that.

Then, in Spring Training, when every player gets a physical anyway, Prince finally had one, but this still went undetected because of what you said.

Agreed. As a Tiger fan it was a pleasure to watch him and Miggy play. 2 kids on a sandlot, grinning and having fun playing a game, right up till Prince's darling problems started.

To be honest, I'm not a fan. I don't hate him as a person, but his base running is terrible, he doesn't do anything to drop weight, and he is about as clutch as Bill Buckner in game 6. He had 1 hit in the 2012 WS. I'd have given him a nice contract, but he'd be warming bench in October based on his postseason performance.
