(The Federalist)   Isn't it funny how the government sold all of its GM shares right before GM started its massive recalls? I'm sure the SEC will get right on that   (thefederalist.com) divider line 96

Oh, please. The US Government was just a shareholder and, like any other shareholder, could not have known that GM was sitting on info that their POS cars had problems. Except for their trucks, GM hasn't build a decent car since the 1960s.

Seems the tinfoil hat business is still quite good.

James!: You thought the government should have taken over GM? That's socialism.

just wait until the Department of Transportation clamps down and creates airtight regulations in car making.  And by "clamps down" I mean create requirements that increase a car's cost by another 25% but is run by an understaffed gaggle of nepotistic cronies who won't care to oversee any issues until people die at the same rate in the same manner that they do today.

Taxpayers, drivers, and investors who assumed the government would never fail to disclose rampant safety problems in a company it owned can rest easy,

Shareholders are generally not involved with the day-to-day running of a business.  I'm not sure why anyone assumes that some guy in the government was poring over engineering field reports.

But outside of this, if the government did do that it would be accused of meddling.  If they don't, they're accused of this.

So in summary - Government:  always bad, always the problem.

Stop saying the government was taking a loss. It's the taxpayer. You would know this if you were a taxpayer.

I'm going to guess the author wanted to write an article about how much money the government was going to lose on these recalls and didn't want to let a good rage boner go when he found out they'd already sold all their shares.

By the way, the government has been steadily selling off its shares of GM over the course of 2013. The sales were announced months in advance, and the last sale was in December, months before the recalls started. So the premise is kinda flawed.

Or is it!?  Have you considered that the government KNEW there was going to be a recall, but forced GM to make the recall much later after it had sold its shares but not too much later so as to make it look like they didn't know all along, but not too soon so it looks like they weren't directly involved.

You see, Issa's Razor tells us that the more complicated a scenario is the more likely it is to be true.  How far does this go?  Technically, even God had to know since he knows everything.  What was he doing to prevent this and why didn't he warn America before his favorite nation invested their money in this flawed company.

What did God stand to gain?  Just follow the money my friend.  Wheels within wheels.  The man behind the curtain.  Nothing is a coincidence.

I did notice that Pope Benedict resigned before the recall... What did he know and when did he know it?

Whoa, this genius is using "while the U.S. government was the company's largest single owner, the NHTSA was busy harassing Toyota [...] for an alleged malfunction that led to "unintended acceleration" in Toyota vehicles. Toyota was fined and eventually bullied into recalling 8 million vehicles over the issue"  to support their little conspiracy theory?

The same "unintended acceleration" that was shown in a court of law to have been caused by shiat firmware?

Was just thinking that.  It was Congress that DEMANDED we dump all our GM stock ASAP mostly because all other parts of TARP were MAKING money and the NEEDED something to point to to talk about how horribly the taxpayer lost his shirt in the bailout.

The headline seems to make the allegation that the USG engaged in insider trading, but what "insider" knowledge does subby suppose the government is privy to?  Does he really think that because the US owned a certain quantity of GM stock they were somehow "in Charge" of GM and GM's weekly TPS reports ere being sent to Obama's desk with a new cover sheet he designed?

Politics aren't the same as "government". If a politician is caught sleeping with a mistress, yes, someone planned him to get caught most likely. If there is an unintended consequence of some government action its not always planned. Obama didn't "planned" to have HealthCare.Gov be crappy and crash prone, but shiat happens. Did someone plan it? Maybe, but I wouldn't discount stupidity.

Well, when things don't happen at the same time it is technically not a coincidence.
