I'll take it. But I'm willing to bet that a solid majority of todays race fans wouldn't recognize the names.

You never heard of Joe Weatherly? He has the most awesome gravestone in the world:

image2.findagrave.com

For those of you that don't remember NASCAR when it was still just the good ol' boys, that is the outline of Riverside International Raceway, the Track That Dan Gurney Built, the track that ate brakes and drivers for breakfast, where A.J. Foyt received last rites when he lost his brakes approaching turn 9 (the hairpin after the long straight), and where Joe Weatherly died. His death (and Richard Petty's severe head injuries a few years later) led to the use of window nets.

Riverside is now a shopping mall. Just another big loss in racing history.

This "must induct 5" rule has to go.  I can see limiting it to the top 5 vote earners each year, but no one should ever get into any Hall of Fame anywhere with 30% of the vote.

Before who?  Which of the first 20 would you have taken out in favor of Scott?

I know all 5. I'm old. Lawn, off, you know the drill.

Joe Weatherly has the stands in Turn 4 at Daytona named in his honor.

Fred Lorenzen won pretty much everything there was to win in the middle '60s. Sad he's kind of forgotten now.

And Rex White was one of the original Ford Racing drivers (and won a championship as well).

My dad always tells me how bad ass Riverside was. He saw a lot of races there back in the day.

I met a guy who does table tops with track shapes inlaid. Wanted the Riverside one. Lost his card and the googles do nothing.

I'm glad NASCAR went with the guys they did this round. Cup fans could use a history lesson.

They are all NASCAR legends, and if you don't know who Wendell Scott is, you should.

It's been a long time since I drove past Darlington to go to the beach, but IIRC their museum was named after Weatherly.
