And sing that song with that slash who played catwoman in the video

Prince did that about 8 or 9 years ago.

Last Dance with Mary Jane? I like that one.

I like that one Tom Petty song written in the chords of D, G, C, and Am, and the AABB rhyme scheme.  That one is really good.

he will shake it up sometimes, though.  Sometimes he uses Dm intead of Am. he's nuts, that Tommy!  He's a mad scientist with those chords.

I've seen him in concert a few times.  Getting an album would just be icing.  The concert itself is worth the ticket cost.  I generally don't got to concerts because they are too expensive.  Tom Petty is the rare exception.  He plays a lot of his deep catalog and some of his newer stuff (which is still pretty aweseome.)

Prince did this years ago to boost album sales and get a higher listing on the charts.

yeah, the concert channel showed a pretty recent show and, while not a huge fan, i've long admired him.  i was surprised at how hard that band rocks and swings.  mike campbell is astonishing.  and the interplay of the band is great.  i wouldn't say a "jam band" (which is a terribly overrated genre as so few bands truly jam anymore) but, a lot of big ears on the stage.

and the record industry inexplicably called bullshiat on him for artificially inflating album sales and throwing off their numbers.  hey record industry, you're dead already.  like it matters.

and insult to injury the album sucked.

/OTOH it was kinda silly for each ticket holder to get the CD.  "hey honey, shall we listen to your brand new PRince CD, or my brand new Prince CD?"

Tom Petty's been doing this with his fanclub presales since 2006.

And bonus, he is touring with Steve Winwood again. Will be another killer show.

Sounds like he's running down a dream.

I still remember the day my older sister (who was a college radio DJ) brought their debut album home and made me listen to it because she knew I loved new music and she loved to turn me onto stuff that she appreciated.  I was floored by the whole album but when American Girl, the last track came on I about shat myself with glee.

I still think it's one of the greatest pop songs ever written.

Saw Tom and the boys a few years back here in Michigan. I think it was to support "The Last DJ." I still don't know any of the songs on that album (not a die-hard) but I do remember that he opened the gig with "I Need To Know."

Fantastic show.

Actually, I've always been partial to "Even the Losers." It helped after my fiancee at the time (who was out of my league) broke up with me.

Well I traded mine for a beer, so let's make it yours.

About 20 years ago my brother-in-law was working at a Staples store in North Hollywood. This guy and his eenage daughter were buying a few things, and as the guy was busy writing out a check, my brother in law was bagging up their purchases.

My brother in law asks the girl, "Has anybody ever told you your dad looks like Tom Petty?"

The girl smiled and said yeah, she gets that all the time.

After they'd left, the cashier looks over at my brother-in-law, shakes his head, and says "Dude, that was Tom Petty."

His was one of the best I've seen; the cleanest sound as well.

They say B.B. King can do a 5-minute solo just playing 3 notes, and it sounds better than any shredder.

So did Devo on their Something for Everybody tour.

Having been born in central Florida, I'm convinced that a natural love for Tom Petty's music is installed in all children at the hospital. I've never seen him live but I'd absolutely love to.

I've always been a fan, but listening to the back catalog makes you realize that the Heartbreakers was just one of those perfect ensembles with a perfect front man. And, really, not an asshole among them.

My cheesy cover band plays that song.  I play a harmonica solo instead of the guitar solo.  Folks seem to like it and we always get a few more dancers on the floor when we play it.  CSB?

That reminds me, my sister got lucky, married a yuppie, took him for all he was worth.  Oh wait, no she didn't.  She got knocked up many times by multiple losers and she and her gaggle of perinatal drug-damaged developmentally disabled kids took over my parents' house and wrecked their lives.  That's not as catchy, though.

Saw him 4 years ago on the Mojo tour. Great show. Ticket buyers got a code to download the new CD for free. I forgot and never got around to downloading it.
