Pretty sure I read about this in a Crichton book like 10 years ago.

Also, I wish NBC didn't cancel Revolution.  :(

Soon this super roach will be crashing a party at a bar, and the only way to stop it will be for someone to set off a pony nuke

We'll all meet at Mary's later

Well, all life on earth, we've had a nice run.  We've had some laughs, formed millions of species, and covered the planet for billions of years.  Before long, the nanobots will consume all carbon on the surface of the planet to make more nanobots.  I suppose they'll be our children.  I hope they do as well as we did.

The Earth is already covered with self replicating nano tech gobbling as much carbon as they can.

My alternate answer was.

We are their children.

so clever yet so unwise.
the question is not "can we" but "should we"?

Sigh.

It's just nano-bottles. They say "robots" but we can't even build a real robot in macro scale. This is just an environmentally triggered delivery method for chemicals. Lemme know when we get the nanites that can self-replicate before you freak out about a grey-goo scenario.

Oh that`s OK then. That`s not scary at ALL.

It only means they can drug EVERYONE and only activate the drugs in the people they choose...

Go back to sleep america....now (activates sleeping drug remotely through the TV that watches you back)

Did they grow them in the cracks in the sidewalk?

Because cockroaches can survive anything, and multiply like crazy.

Could be worse.  It could be like in S.M Sterling's The Stone Dogs, where the bad guys infect everyone with a disease that stays latent until the right radio signal activates it.

/the bad guys were more about choosing when than who.
//sorry if it's spoilers, but its so old its out of print AFAIK

WHAT?!  I hadn't heard. Damn, that sucks. It waned a bit during the last few episodes, but I still liked that show. Damn it to hell. All my favorite shows getting cancelled.

/oh, and grey goo is scary or something

humans are only here to give birth to computers.  we are just a stepping stone; a very tiny, very self-important, little stepping stone.

It must be.  In the movies, women seem happy to see it, but in real life they seem to flinch and go "Eww! a  lot.

I think it should be called 'grey fire' instead of 'goo'. Sounds more serious, imo.
