Exposure to a Disgusting Odorant Increases Politically Conservative Views on Sex Everything and Decreases Support for Gay Marriage Everything

Call me crazy, but it seems very much like conditioned response sort of thing.

Is he trying to say that if you smell like poo people won't like you or your opinions? Because that sure is what it sounds like he is saying. Rather a " WELL NO DUH!" Kinda statement.

I'd be willing to bet that this is the case, but science is science, and we cannot just assume that if stank decreases support for dubstep, that stank also decreases support for gay marriage.

nah you can smell good but look bad and people won't like your opinions

i think it's more about the auto-reaction in the brain to cleanliness - probably being in the same part of the brain that deals with survival instincts and the instinct to get rid of something or disapprove

That's the ticket. This study connects to the theory that moral emotions are based on pre-existing neural modules. Reactions involving sex, purity, and corruption have been shown to be connected to disgust (example: give someone a pen to hold, then tell them you got it on loan from a museum and that it is the pen that Hitler used to sign death warrants. More likely than not, the look on their face will be disgust, and they might even perform a small symbolic cleansing act like lightly absentmindedly wipe their fingers on something.).

The relationship works in the other direction as well. Do something to elicit disgust (one study involved a bag of rotting garbage sitting in the corner), and people tend to be harsher in their judgments involving sex, purity, and corruption.

And the point to all this is what exactly?

So I was going to so a 10 major considerations checklist with major/minor limitation evaluations ... But halfway through I realized this isn't medicine, nor standard/accepted/validated practice. So then I was like "this is stupid, and proves only one thing... Kyle was behind 9/11."

Title bias, no idea how they calculated their power, they didn't list the number of pts included in analysis and I didn't see anything about blinding... So Level V evidence at best.

/maybe I'm just being really lazy and halfassing my evaluation of this 'study'
