Yes, the hashtag is utterly useless.  But complaining about it just makes you look like a biatch.  So why not make your daily post about the VA or Benghazi or something?  It's like she doesn't know how to ignore a non-issue.

Compare the number of people who are looking at her today with the number of people who were looking at her two weeks ago. It's more, isn't it?  Morer is gooder. Therefore thinly veiled racist selfies are good.

Fark you,  submitter. Like all patriotic Americans, I've been deranged since the day Bill Clinton's penis first popped out of his trousers in the Oval Office. Obama doesn't even exist, he's just a figment of my tortured psyche. (Not a very plausible one, either, if I'm being honest.) NO HATE LIKE LIBERAL HATE! NO DERANGEMENT LIKE CLINTON DERANGEMENT!

Now, turning our attention to the gold standard and how it could have saved Elian Gonzales from the clutches of the UN's puppet regime in Cuba...

Did anyone actually read TFA? The idea behind #BringBackOurGirls was not to influence Boko Haram but to influence the Nigerian government and others in a position to actually do something about it, and social media actually does have the power to make that happen.

Ann Coulter, George Will and Jim Hoft need to be locked into an outhouse that's been sitting in the sun for the last three weeks and set on fire.

ArkPanda: Yes, the hashtag is utterly useless.

No, it isn't. The public pressure really seems to have pushed the Nigerian Govt into opening up the door to assistance from other nations. Boku Horam is not new and Nigeria has resisted any offers of assistance up until this became a more visible issue.

Using social media isn't totally useless. It has been shown plenty of times to be useful in quickly informing and getting large amounts of people to move towards a goal and rallying people to pressure the government to act as it did with Nigeria in the case of these girls.

And the people who are using it to make a joke or a political point against Obama are just plain evil and are showing the world how evil they are.

And in the TFA, there are links to eight studies confirming the significance of social media.

Because Ann Coulter is the Republican Hive Mind manifested and made flesh. She is the Alpha and Omega of the Republican Party. What she says, every Republican believes. And every Republican believes what she says.

I have no idea if this will be an effective strategy in pressuring governments to intervene. I hope it will, but I have grave doubts.

That being said, I think the biggest difference between liberals and conservatives is empathy. If you don't have any, you become a conservative. How many times have we seen conservative pundits and politicians switch onpinions on a specific issue only when it affects them personally?

Liberals can understand the effects of an issue or policy on others even when it doesn't affect them.

Everything else flows from that fact.

And also, obliquely, making the same point - if a similar number retweet parodies of Ann Coulter as retweeted Michelle Obama's pic, awareness of ODS rises along with pressure on the Nigerian government to kidnap Ann Coulter.

I'm a Fark Independent. I can't stand her. I disagree with her and think her actions are rude. She is incredibly disingenuous, and worried more about her own relevance than the political situations she claims to be outraged about. She's a professional troll, and not in the fun way.

Garet Garrett: Silly Ann Coulter, don't you know that it's only acceptable to mock those expressing concern about U.S. deaths that occur on the watch of President Obama and his Secretary of State?

Except for those people being mocked there aren't concerned with the deaths that happened at Benghazi, they are just concerned with trying to use the deaths of 4 people to take a political jab at the president and Hilliary Clinton, and to use those deaths to fund raise.

French and US aircraft being used to search.
Republicans, including sitting Senators and House members, demanding that Obama send US military forces to fight Boko Haram.

So...   The hashtag worked?  So what are Republicans complaining about, then?

Garet Garrett: Silly Ann Coulter, don't you know that it's only acceptable to mock those expressing concern about U.S. deaths that occur on the watch of President Obama and his Secretary of State?

Do we really have to trot out that image if Mitt Romney smirking? Or cite the number of people who dies in embassy attacks during the Bush Administration that Republicans didn't care about. Or cite the 4500+ Americans killed in Iraq that the Republicans don't care about?

Because it's clear that the Republicans don't care about those 4 lives. If anything, they spent the entirety of September 2012 high-fiving each other over those deaths because it could be used to make Obama look bad.

Oh, and if you really want to know who bears the burden of blame for those 4 deaths, ask yourself who reduced funding for embassy security in the first place? Ask yourselves why, after all those people were killed in embassies under Bush's watch, why the Republicans voted to reduce the money spent on embassy security back in 2011.

The bravery of these families cannot be overstated. They and their daughters were willing to take the risk of going to school in a society where too many fundamentalists believe that females should be uneducated or dead. Heroic people-mothers, fathers, little girls and teenagers-all confronting potential death in order to live a better life and help their communities.

I don't get the Twitter hate at all.

I can sort of see why people would think that tweeting a #bringbackourgirls is a bit like appearing to do something without actually putting in any effort or helping constructively in anyway. But the truth is, that without the hashtag it's unlikely any of us would even have heard of this story the way the Nigerian government was trying to brush it under the carpet.

What is funny, is that the people scoffing at social media activism are the same kind of people who think that sending someone your prayers is a valuable and constructive contribution.

Haven't watched any of season 4 yet for fear of exactly what you describe. McGruder held up a mirror to African American culture. I shudder to think what it became without his influence.
