(When On Earth)   In Denmark there is a restaurant staffed entirely by children no older than 12 so they can learn at an early age how much it sucks to work in the food service industry and they better damn well get a decent college degree   (whenonearth.net) divider line 24

I refuse to be served by any waiter that doesn't have a liberal arts degree.

Just what I want to pay $$ for:  A meal prepared by a kindergartener who's leaking mucus all over my food.

I wonder if they do cocaine at work and party until the early morning hours, finally crash when the sun comes up, then get up at 3pm to do it all over again? You know like most restaurant workers?

At least we found a use for cute, white children.

Making under minimum wage in a restaurant kept me in school so that I wouldn't have to make under minimum or minimum for the rest of my life.  Worked pretty well.  Took a lot of hours though to pay tuition, books, car expenses, and insurance at under minimum wage.  Hda to reduce classload for a while.  Fortunately my other part time jobs paid better, as did the restaurant after a few years.

It's called the Kinderkookkafe.  Can we refer to it as the KKK?

lol there's tons of people graduating college for whom that stupid piece of paper doesn't do anything besides saddle them with debt.

My advice to anyone who thinks a college degree is a step up? You'd be better off just getting used to retail/service industry. Yeah minimum wage sucks, but so do unpaid internships that last 6mo-years and $50k in student loans. You think you have it bad now? Try repaying student loans that are as much as a mortgage or car payment, with the extra $4/hr your degree might get you.

Not that different really. I believe Helen Keller said the same when she was hiding from the Germans.

Some countries offer free or nearly free higher edution and a lot of public financial aid to students, resulting in much lower levels of student debt than in countries like the US. TMYK

I don't want to sound all Newt Gringrichy, but young 'uns get a lot out of work.  A sampling of things I gained from the jobs I had before I graduated from college:

- One minute early: good.  Two minutes late: you missed the ride, and now you have to pay to take the train, and you've lost half a day's pay, genius.
- Hmm. If I'm nice to the wait staff, they don't stiff me as much on tips.
- "Thanks; you did a good job."  (It actually happens.)
- My coworker's a jerk, and he'll be a jerk tomorrow as well.  I guess I gotta learn to deal with jerks.
- Maybe I don't want to wear a radiation badge every day for the rest of my life.
- I'm in the desert.  THE GODDAMNED DESERT.  With drunk, stoned geology grad students.  They stink, I stink, I hate everything on earth and I will kill someone before the sun sets over this barren landscape and there are scorpions.
- I'm about to keel over dead, but, oh, someone walked in, so I must smile right now.
- Hmm.  You're going to eat the food I'm about to prepare for you after insulting me twice in less than 30 seconds?
- Ha! No one comes to the library at night.  I can practically be paid to do homework!  What's this?  The day librarians have a stash of Harlequins under the counter...
- So ... I'd have to work three hours if I bought this CD ...

- And the winner (and this really happens to some):  Wait ... they'll pay me ... to do this?

Yes. SANE countries that aren't dominated by greed. Higher education in the US is a joke.

Netherlands, not Denmark.  Big difference.  All those kids are probably over the age of consent in the Netherlands.
