Even if it does keep their plight in the headlines.  Objections here, on a forum that would have many hang a suspect just for looking like they'd done it, I am shocked that they would even notice let alone be disturbed by something like this.

All news stories should be presented with topless models.

Either the censor was bored and wanted to color, or that's a black strapless bra she's got on.

For all we can see, she's wearing a black strapless dress.

Supermodel Irina Shayk could have chosen any other pose to show her support for the more than 200 Nigerian girls kidnapped by the Boko Haram militants two months ago.

I don't know how you get 'any other pose' out of 'supermodel'.  It's what they have going for them.  It's what she does.

Maybe a pose on a riding lawnmower?  Trimming the hedges?  Painting a house?

2014-05-20 07:41:57 AM
The term "Supermodel" sure gets tossed around a lot. Aw hell. Maybe I'm just old but that looks like the girl down at the Super K. She's working there and at Walmart because her boyfriend has a 'problem'. Don't worry. She says he's turning around. Gonna go to school and be a paramedic just like the ones that revived him after the last three overdoses.

Supermodel isn't a description of looks, it's a description of success and fame achieved through being a model. Making it onto the cover of Sports Illustrated generally qualifies one for the title.

This should be a new MO for news stories.

2014-05-20 07:49:23 AM
Well it got everyone talking and writing articles about it. I'd say mission accomplished.

2014-05-20 07:53:13 AM
I beg to differ, Subby. I think ll women should be tweeting topless pics over this whole kidnapped girls thing.

It will help to bring the girls home sooner, ladies. What? Don't you care about the kidnapped girls???

Do your duty!

So if a male model posed while clothed (she is clearly wearing something) would people be making such a fuss?  I honestly doubt it.  Also I'm willing to bet good money the the vast majority of the people 'slamming' her haven't done a damn thing to help those girls either so, you know, glass houses, stones, etc.

2014-05-20 07:55:05 AM
I can't believe there are people who haven't seen her topless already.

/fark you, Ronaldo

That's hardly topless. Do people need to find things to be outraged about all the time?

Yes, but at least what they didn't do wasn't holding up a sign that covered their clothes.

People pay way less attention to male models, anyway.  Male porn stars, too.

I'd like to see that as much as the next guy, but I'm guessing she probably gets waxed.

I just hope enough tweets go out that the violent Islamic extremists that took the girls decide to return them.

Maybe if some of those Tweets promise $1,771,900 per girl, courtesy of Prince Umforeignsounding?

The Tweets alone aren't enough.    They need the unifying strength of drum beats (like OWS).   Without the drums there is no spirit.     Just dead empty twitters.

That's what it looks like, on the left of the sign it doesn't even look like shadow, it looks like her torso is also covered in a black material.

Looks more like "Bring back our  gills". What is she trying to do, reverse evolution? Is this an amphibibian thang?

She probably heard that the rule on the chan that the kidnappers hang out on was "Tits or GTFO"

I have not particular objections to her efforts, but I think it might send a more effective message if a few special forces guys would display the hashtag on their bayonets and an a few drones.

I'm not a fan of hashtavism, but I grudgingly admit that there might be something to it.  This girl isn't kicking doors and slitting Boko Haram throats, or even donating money to those who might.  What the hashtag, or website or fb page or 5K walk or whatever does is to make people aware of the shiatshow that is occuring.  If nobody knows, or cares, than they will be more or less free to go on their jolly way and do whatever their next item is on their plan to become comic book villains.  Once the eye of Sauron is upon you, actual resources, like technical aid, money and door kickers can come from those with the means or abilities to do so.  And in this woman's case, her stock in trade is looking good and people like looking at pretty girls.

In the meantime, the trick is to find someone to donate those resources TO.  I assure you, Goodluck Jonathan is not that guy.  Donating military aid to the Nigerian military is going to bite us in the tuchas big time down the road.  Maybe there is someone worth backing in Camaroon.  And while I'm on my high horse, we might, MIGHT want to consider doing something about a situation where you can actually sell a few hundred twelve-year-old girls.  What the frak is THAT all about?

Supermodels. Seems the bar is set quite low to be a Sports Illustrated Super model

FTFA: People have turned this #bringbackourgirls into a fad.

What...was it?  Was it ever a serious form of activism?  Basically, there are now a lot of images out there with almost-blank signs held by a bunch of well-meaning people that can be photoshopped to say anything.  Cute, well-meaning, but really an odd fad in the name of doing something (that isn't anything).

So because some girls might be getting raped a free woman must conceal her body beyond what we consider to be decent for a meal in a restaurant? WTF?

I'll never understand the need some people have to make others feel ashamed of their flesh.

"You're not helping!"

Yeah, well neither is anyone else on the internet. We've become convinced that, if we just frame our speech in the correct terms, Islam will stop persecuting women and become the moderate religion that we dream about replacing old-and-busted Judeo-Christianity with. So much so that we're actually considering anything that offends terrorists "speech not protected by the First Amendment."

/when will you learn that there will always be a new grievance that you will be required to redress, made up on the spot if necessary
//it's a thought weapon that's been used since Mohammedan times to trick non-Muslims into giving up their freedom to cling to an illusion that Islam can be peacefully appeased by anything less than total conversion to theocracy
