(Washington Post)   Barack Obama told America that his favorite food is broccoli. And yet, he only ever seems to take people out for cheeseburgers. What is really going on here? Is this part of some greater deception?   (washingtonpost.com ) divider line

But seriously, come on. Everyone lies when they say their favorite food is something healthy.

Obama was just taking a stab at one of our greatest presidents, George Herbert * Bush, who famously (and correctly) stated that broccoli was overrated, and that, as it turned out, was the single largest gaffe of the man's presidency.  The broccoli lobby was screaming, not for impeachment, but rather a good par boiling.  Cooler heads prevailed.

It was a different time, before the Web.  We lived by a warrior's code...

HawgWild: LET'S HOLD CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS! A LOT OF THEM! ALL THE TIME!

Exactly. I like broccoli, but it's nowhere near the top of the list of my favorite foods. Nor would it be for any human with a normal sense of taste. As I recall, Bush Sr. had a well-publicized aversion to broccoli, so this is probably just more of Obama's trolling the GOP.

As Obama is obviously lying, if he perjures himself in front of Congress by claiming broccoli is his favorite food in spite of a clear preference for cheeseburgers, that's grounds for impeachment.

Nope.

As a chef, I don't take folks out for MY favorite foods. I take folks to places I think they'll like.

Otherwise, it would be Indian and sushi, pretty much 24/7. My roomies, they like sushi OK, but they'd rather have pizza and beer, as opposed to tekka maki, unagi, and sake...

Regular broccoli is OK, It's enjoyable enough raw in a salad or as part of a crudités platter.  On the other hand, broccoli rabe is awesome, one of my favorite vegetables, especially sautéed with a bit of garlic and red pepper flake.

I was going to cut him some slack, I mean that's what, a dozen or so burgers over 5 years, but then they mentioned that he ordered Dijon mustard on one and that crossed the line. Does Issa know about this?

This may be a threadjack, if so ignore, but I don't consider Broccoli Rabe to be broccoli. Rapini and broccoli are quite different.

They're OK.  It's like the Chipotle of burger joints, better than fast food, but not as good as a real sit down place.  The fries are pretty awesome though if you ask for them well done.

If he'll ram the gay agenda down our throats, he'd have no hesitation doing the same thing with broccoli.

Yeah, they have peanuts all over the place, and the fries are cooked in peanut oil, which is awesome, unless you have a peanut allergy, then I suppose it sucks.

It's a thread about what the President eats when he was eats out. I think you can thread-jack to your heart's content.

I live in the San Francisco Bay area. Every single Chinese restaurant here serves broccoli. Broccoli with beef, Broccoli with pork, Broccoli with soy. Apparently, it's a rule for them to stay in business.
