(Philly.com)   The Flyers have the highest winning percentage in the NHL over the past 39 years. The most playoff wins. Most appearances in the Stanley Cup finals and semi-finals. One of the highest payrolls every year. And zero championships in that period   (philly.com ) divider line

The Flyers have appeared in six Cup Finals since last winning one in 1975.

The Canadiens and Oilers have appeared in seven:

http://simple.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Stanley_Cup_Finals_appearan ce s

And for you crying Flyers fans, Toronto hasn't even been in the Final since 1967.

It's funny, the top three teams in the NHL since then all have not exactly had it easy.  I mean, if you take out the four in a row that the Habs had right after the Flyers repeat, they've had what is, for the Habs, the worst streak ever.  Two Cups in three appearances, seven Conference Finals, seven times missing the playoffs (which is one less than half their misses EVER).  They're eight seasons (9 years, because Fark You Bettman) past their previous longest Cup drought, and thanks to Kreider that streak looks to be extended in a few days' time.

Not saying that because I'm a Habs fan.  I'm rubbing it in because I'm a Bruins fan, and we currently have won a Cup more recently than both the teams ahead of us.

\gotta have something at this point ;)

So the team has consistently been competitive and entertaining. .. There are plenty of fan bases who would welcome the Flyers level of "failure"

I hardly see the need to kill off the Cubs, they don't seem to be much of a threat to win anything, dead or alive.

2014-05-19 03:57:07 PM
Maybe if they dropped all connection with the Broad Street Bullies and tried to reinvent themselves like the Dallas Cowboys of the nineties and...wait...damn, bad example.

The Red Wings have also been to 6 finals in that time period. But have won 4 of them.

IIRC his scouting team nearly lost their minds when he put Forsberg into the Lindros package.

If anything, you gotta keep the Cubs alive for the sheer entertainment value of perpetual suck. Killing them would be a mercy death.

Muta: I hate the Fliers play Kate Smith singing God Bless American before their games when their in the finals.

Kate needs to be retired. At least for a few years. It's gone from only playing her in the finals during Game 6 or 7, to playing her when they're down only 2-1 in the first round. It's ridiculous, especially since they have a singer now (Lauren Hart) who is just as good as Kate, if not better. There was actually a debate on the radio when it happened this year, and the consensus from the Flyer Stepford fans was "We have to play Kate! It's tradition!"

Which is the problem with the Flyers and their fans... *everything* is "tradition", "the Flyers' way", or somehow linked to the Broad Street Bullies. Neither the team nor the owner have ever migrated into the 21st Century, and whenever anyone criticizes them for that, the fans immediately act like you've just suggested that team should be disbanded or moved to Alaska.

I guess it would be too much to ask that the Dallas Cowboys and Liverpool FC get wiped out by that fiery ball of death.

Your criticism cannot be taken very seriously if you can't even spell the name of the team.

You recall incorrectly, that was a Russ Farwell joint during Clarke's time in exile building Minnesota into a finals team, and the Panthers into respectability.
