I would love to visit too.  On the minimum wage, you realize that Switzerland has no national minimum wage, that's what was voted down in the referendum

No, I didn't realize that. I had to go back and re-read the article.

Switzerland, as a country, actually does not have a minimum wage written into law. It does have collective bargaining agreements between its workers and management and almost the entire population is covered by it. The minimum salary of skilled workers ranges from 2,800 to 5,300 Swiss francs, while that of unskilled workers may be anywhere between 2,200 to 4,200 Swiss francs.

In other words, even without this passing, the average Swiss wage starts at something like $15-20 an hour. Or, as the rest of us like to call it, a living wage.

Perhaps not so coincidentally, there are no Wal-Marts in Switzerland, their CEO:worker pay ratio is 1/4th that of the US (but still seen as absurdly high for Europe), they cover all of their citizens with the best health care system in the world, they get 4 weeks of vacation and 14 weeks of maternity leave, and all in all they're routinely one of the top 2 or 3 happiest countries on Earth

It's almost as though healthy people who can pay their cost of living with reasonable working hours are happier and better off than people who slave 70 hours a week in shiat jobs just to get by. Even to the point of thinking that a very high legal minimum wage is unnecessary.

What a shocking idea.

Well, they are pretty nutty about recycling here, and none of the official languages are English, which was good enough for Jesus to write the Bible in, but not good enough for the Swiss, so that's some pretty liberal shiat right there.

Lionel Mandrake: Switzerland is liberal?  When did that happen?

I don't really think you can accurately label any one nation solidly liberal or conservative.  They're all going to have their own policies and mindset.  And they're probably not going to line up cleanly with American concepts of 'left' or 'right'.

2014-05-18 03:05:03 PM
You can't maintain a high minimum wage while beating out all the other net-exporting countries in a globalist approach to economics. We need to stop being so bent on exporting. Anyway, that would conserve resources, too. Win win.

What does god need with a starship?

So a nation run by unscrupulous bankers is now a liberal paradise?

I have to ask.  Do conservatives even know what liberals are anymore?

OH please, any 10 American's won't agree what  'left' or 'right' means anyway.  It's all useless labeling for the purpose of segregation.  Divide and conquer.

Please stop spreading this bullshiat.  There is no left, there is no right, there are people, and a great many of them are stupid, ignorant or both.  Labels don't help any of that.

Yes, neutral with Jets, tanks, border barricades, machine guns, and never starting anything. You know, common sense.

Because their minimum wage is already much higher than ours subby!

Also Switzerland is not the "Liberal Paradise" you think it is

But im sure that wont stop people like you and Fox News to spout off about it. Facts get in the way of the let them eat cake, fark the poors way of thinking that will doom this country

Liberal and conservative has a different meaning in Europe from the USA, at least  in economic terms.  The norm in Europe is high government participation in the economy, so a more free enterprise approach (like Switzerland) is considered "liberal".

"In Itally, for 30 years under the Borgias, they had warefare, terror, murder, and bloodshed. But they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Renaissance. In Switzerland, they had brotherly love, they had 500 years of democracy and peace-and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock."

Switzerland isn't anybody's idea of liberal, whether you mean "libertarian" or "social democratic" kind of liberal.
