Benjimin_Dover: Which illustrates why a minimum wage law which is a one size fits all with one set value for all regions like what Obummer is crying for is stupid. It should be tied to the cost of living in the area.

Meanwhile Switzerland is considering raising the minimum wage to $25 an hour.

I don't think they will though.

fluffy2097: thecactusman17: Woah woah: the average pay is $130k, not the average worker's salary. It's like saying the average Microsoft employee makes a million dollars a year while including Bill Gates. That's probably true of some of the conductors but not everybody. The employees on strike were the support staff and nobody had gotten a raise in about four years due to budget cuts.

Their top paid janitor gets paid 80k a year.

On average, they make 10 to 30k a year more then other people doing the exact same job in other places.

They are obscenely well paid.

In one of the most obscenely expensive places to live.

Just to give you an idea of how incredibly stupid the cost of living is in San Fran:

When compared to my city (Cleveland, OH), if you were to make say $60,000/yr in salary here, in San Fran various items like-  Groceries 16% more; Housing 210% more; Utilities 1% more; Transportation 12% more; Health Care 13% more.  I'd have to be making over $90,000 just break even with what I make here in Cleveland.  To live in Oakland I'd have to make $20,000 more, and San Jose is about on par with San Fran.  Like I said- it's ridiculous.

Bootysama: Strikes brought on by a union where the average worker makes $130,000 a year. I'm pretty damned liberal but fark the bart union.

While they are highly paid, "the average gross pay for the blue-collar BART union workers who are threatening another shutdown was $76,551 last year."

There are plenty of valid reasons to not like BART union workers, but you just look real dumb when you make stuff up.

fluffy2097: It's not the BART's fault.

We know where trains go, they are on tracks. We know when they go there, they are on schedules.

What this is, is a lack of basic safety protocol. Probably brought about by constant strikes.

Strikes brought on by a union where the average worker makes $130,000 a year. I'm pretty damned liberal but fark the bart union.
