Are you a mod, or a rocker?

Um, no...

For some unknown reason, The Who's Quadrophenia album is under-appreciated. If you want to listen to it properly, put on a good set of headphones, crank it up until you can't remember how to crank it down again.

/okay, that works for all Who albums. Especially Live at Leeds. Ohh mama!

I think appreciation of the Quadrophenia album has increased greatly over the last 40 years.  I, for one, think it's one The Who's best and a much better concept album than Tommy.

Ok, I'll start

Love me some Quadrophenia.

Why did rockers hate moderators so much?

Editorials fulminated with predictions of national collapse, referring to the youths as 'those vermin' and 'mutated locusts wreaking untold havoc on the land'.

Huh, didn't know Fox News existed back then.

I'm impressed by how complex and complicated the album is. In contrast, I'm amazed by how simple the Tommy album is. Most of it is just the four guys.

Played the hell out of that album when I was in high school. Nice find, subby.

From the article: Folk Devils and Moral Panics: "a condition, episode, person or group of persons emerges to become a threat to societal values and interests; its nature is presented in a stylised and stereotypical fashion by the mass media". Moral barricades are manned, solutions are devised by 'experts', and the episode fades or is successfully 'dealt with'.

Faux News doesn't just carry on this tradition, it has turned it into a continuous series of multiple threats to exploit the sheeple both economically and politically

wellreadneck: I'd never heard of  Teddy boys . Interesting article.

These Are The Damned is a weird little 1961 movie about children being bred to survive a nuclear war that involves a band of Teddy Boys, led by a really chilling Oliver Reed.  Worth seeing on the occasional TCM showing.

The picture looked familiar, but as soon as I saw Macdonald Carey's name, I was certain I'd seen this movie. I just don't remember it well. I'll have to try and catch it.

I was 13, when Battle of Brighton took place, and Life magazine had some pictures of the action, so it was a big deal.  It was the the first I had heard of the "Mods vs.Rockers War".  I particularly remember one photo in Life, it was taken at about 300 feet away, and it showed a mob of Mods chasing fleeing Rockers.  It gave you the feeling that the old order had been over thrown.  It was too bad, as I would appreciate both sides' music.

carry the bloody baggage out

I love Quadrophenia.  When I was in college in the '80s, as part of my freshman composition class, I wrote a paper about that album.  I got to listen to it at Dimond Library over and over again as part of my 'homework' as I did my paper.  My teacher loved it.  Not saying it was the easiest A I've ever gotten, I put some work into it but it was probably one of the most satisfying As of my academic career.

Loved that film. Have watched it dozens of times, still love scooters and I currently have a Vespa PX 125. I nearly cried at the end when Ace's scooter goes over the cliff.

So Generation X was in full swing at the time ? I was told that Gen Xer's were just being born in the early 60's.

Came in to put another vote in for Quadrophenia as one of the very best albums I ever heard. I think it was under-appreciated because the music was so complex and the themes are pretty dark.

That album showed just how great both Moon and Entwhistle were as a rhythm section.

5:15 may be the perfect song, in my opinion.,

that was a mocked up Rally 200 actually, on the album he steals a boat & crashes it into a rock island @ low tide and is waiting to drown but Franc Roddam thought a true suicide over a piritual one was depressing...

BalugaJoe The man in the back said everyone attack and it turned into a a barroom blitz.

that was when locals drove The Sweet offstage in Scotland in '73, a subgenre of 'Smoke On The Water', really
