They should devote an entire episode just on Helena eating Jello

It would be really nice if they would just tie Dr. Leekie to a table and start torturing him until he tells us everything. Just because Max Headroom has a nice smile and calming demeanor doesn't change the fact that he is a modern day Josef Mangele. Actually, we are probably going to find out that he is the first ever successful clone of Mangele himself.

Fantastic second season so far. Tatiana Maslany is simply phenomenal.

I found this show a bit odd.  Only watched the first season.  On the one hand, I love the idea of the premise, and the fact that its filmed in my home town and I recognize everything.  On the other hand, Maslany seems like she is taking on a much bigger task than she is ready for.  Every time I see one of her characters, I can't help but focus on how hard the actress is trying to make that particular character wildly different from the rest.  Like that soccer mom clone, its like the writers and director and makeup and costume and actress are all SCREAMING at you that "THIS IS A STEREOTYPICAL SOCCER MOM".  And then the geeky science stoner.  She even has dreads.  What a caricature.  If the characters had been a bit more diverse, a bit more creative, then maybe I wouldn't have gotten so pulled out of the show.  Maybe it is the writing, or directing, I don't know.  It did seem like the kind of show that would be better by season 2, when Maslany has had time to sink into the characters, and when the writers have had a chance to develop them out of their holes.  I also found her gay friend's character to be a bit stereotypical, although funny and likable.

But man, I hope she is getting paid a ton, because acting on this show would be hell.

I knew you were a Canuck just by your post.

All of the characters are supposed to be wildly different than the rest.

I have known geeky, scientist, hipster stoners, with dreads.

I have known uptight soccer moms.

How more diverse could they have been?  The actress does a wonderful job in her roles of each one.

Did you want perhaps a black clone, a blind one, a Colombian drug lord, and a Scientologist?

You ever think that is how she is being directed?

What would you say if I told you that most Canadians I have met(and I have met a lot when I worked in 6 countries) tried so hard to be Canadian and not considered American, yet their behavior was like anyone else from a flyover state.

You forgot Yakuza clone.

I actually like this show quite a bit, but I was making a similar point over a beer, that the clones are all brutally stereotypes in order to enforce the point of how different they are.

Fe is a stereotype too. If they had um, any balls, they would show his, instead of cowardly flashing us his ass every episode to enforce the message, Fe is gay.

The other guys then gave me a wedgie for talking about a chick show over a beer.

There is an Android app that needs to be sideloaded called "show box" that works scarily well (when it works) and seems to work without torrents.

Near as I can tell when it's working, it just works -- I'm not going to ask how.

Should you use it:

+ it seems to work better on windows bluestacks with a wired connection as that has better internet connectivity then an android tablet connected via wi-fi

+ if you use it on bluestacks, a file manager like ASTRO can relatively efficiently copy the downloaded video to various SMB shares on your network, including the windows host you are running bluestacks off of.

I think they have considerable more depth than that.  Sure, they started out as archetypes, but they've grown more or less since then from the circumstances they've been thrown into.  Sarah started out as a bit of a selfish grifter but has grown into the de facto leader of the group.  Allison may have been the stereotypical upper middle class soccer mom, defining herself in terms of her kids and lifestyle, but that's been shattered and she's been reeling from those revelations trying to find out who she really is.  Helena started out as a psychotic zealot, and while she still certainly has those psychotic tendencies due to the trauma she's gone through, she's expanding her world view.  Cosima hasn't has as much opportunity to really develop as a character, but I think a lot of that is due to her being out on an island relative to the other clones.  She has her own struggles with her illness and trying to get to the root of the experiment from inside, but she seems to have accepted her nature quicker than any of the others, and given her background that makes sense, she just hasn't been faced with anything to force a radical change in course yet.

Rachel is new, and so far she's been portrayed as the stone cold corporate biatch, but the hints at the power struggles within the Dyad, or whatever corporation controls it, hint that there's more than meets the eye there.

It's easy to forget that the same actress is playing all of those roles because they all come across as such different people, which I'm sure is part of the point.

Also, some great lines tonight: "Do you like my hair Paul?" "Very pretty, dirty sexy Rachel, like my mother"

I can't put it on a par with Breaking Bad, it's good, but not that good. Of the half dozen shows I am following at the moment, it is second best to Fargo. It is one of those shows I tend to watch by myself, and with the subtitles downloaded so I can follow it, back up, and not miss details in the dialog.

I would like to see it become big enough to get an SNL parody of it, it would be fun watching all the clones played by one or more different SNL actors.

Definitely. I'd also recommend In The Flesh, an interesting twist on the zombie genre, where cured zombies are struggling to reintegrate with a society that knows they are only a missed dose of midicafion away from becoming monsters again.

The first two episodes of Penny Dreadful have been fun, so that could also be a great series. It really seems to embracing the batshiat crazy premise, and in the second episode Eva Green has a scene that she just acts the hell out of.

No Allison automatically made this a lesser episode. There's no farking way Sarah is all hunky dory "here, let me introduce you to my brother!" and all that. Helena is a goddamn murderous maniac! You never know what the fark she's going to do! You don't make plans and plots w/ her! Also, when the crazy Mormon mom was pulling the stitches out of her daughter's lips, that looked like it actually hurt. Hardcore, man. But props to Rachel for being the kinkiest, freakiest, rapeiest clone. Not just banging Paul, but ordering him around like the boy scout he really is.

Why don't you just run popcorn time instead of running an android app in an awkward virtual environment?

That's an old pic, it has TV shows now too.  Just uses bittorrent sites, hidden in the background, only needs to download for about 2 minutes before it starts streaming.  And there's an android app and a PC app and a mac app and a linux app program (linux people do not use "apps").

It's an excellent question.

The very one time I used torrent for pirating, man, my ISP sent me a letter and shut me down, like within 24 hours.

So this weird ass setup I am using seems to download directly from one of those "free tv" sites. I don't know how they operate. But they've been up for years and don't seem to get shut down. And since it's not torrent, I don't have to worry about using VPNs, and using blacklists of IPs from known tracker sites and for all I've run it, My ISPs have never cared.

So much as I appreciate torrent, my experience with it wasn't good. And the people who write about it, seem to think nothing about yeah, their ISP may send them some hate mail, and yeah, they have VPNs, and yeah, there is all this extra stuff they have to do.

But all of that seems as difficult if not more so than just using my stupid set up.

Do you use torrent?
Are you using a VPN?
Have you been shut down by your ISP?

Heh, I had an even worse experience with Usenet. Lots of farkers + lifehacker telling me usenet was so much better now, but the only things I brought down from usenet were absolutely loaded with viruses.

(And yeah, I'm old, but not that old, and I write software for a living!)

Bitguard. Proxies might cost a few bucks a month, but at least you gain a bit of freedom and security at the same time.

I had to download the ISO for a game my friend purchased at Gamestop, but he found the wrong disc in the case. He had a valid CD Key, though. I ended up getting a nasty-gram from my ISP because of the torrent. Since then, I turned to a proxy service and have not had a single burp - my P2P sharing IP ends in Amsterdam. I mostly use torrents for oddball stuff, though.

Yeah, I mostly use usenet to "timeshift" my daily shows (The Cable DVR isn't always reliable and fills up too easily). Sickbeard and SABNZBD, on a dedicated Linux media server work great. Unfortunately, some stuff, like rare movies or TV shows never released on DVD or even VHS can usually only be had on the torrents.
