FTFA:  Missing!: 30 million 'patriots' who were supposed to descend on Washington D.C.

There are 317,000,000 people in the US. Of those, approximately 75,000,000 are children, leaving 242,000,000 voting-age adults. Of those, 34% (~82,000,000) are registered Democrats, 35% (~85,000,000) are registered Republicans, and 30% (~73,000,000) are unaffiliated. Assuming approximately a 50/50 split in how the Independents vote, that leaves a potential 'base' of ~121,500,000 to draw from.

30,000,000 represents ~ 25% of that base.

If they think they're going to get one in four members of a political party in this country to do  anything, they're dreaming. They wouldn't agree that pizza is delicious and the Holocaust was bad, much less all get on a bus and drive to DC.

This is a great example of why the Tea Party needs to be killed off, ASAP. Establishment Republicans can be nepotistic oligarchic assholes, but at least they have a sense of history, proportion, and compromise. Letting the government that runs the largest economy in the world be dominated by people who lack all common sense is bad for us all. Yikes.

2014-05-17 02:37:06 PM
I would suspect that even getting 1 in 4 Tea baggers to admit that the Holocaust actually happened would be a stretch.

And oh God, that comment thread hurts. a lot.

did they have permits and facilities lined up?
had they coordinated with the authorities?
or were they planning to do this without actually organizing?

awake_ex_democrat -- May. 17, 2014 at 1:57pm

The problem is, if 30 million people were to start descending on D.C., the feds would have seen it coming long before and would easily have been able to prepare a false flag and subsequent martial law declaration. Not to mention the complete roundup and/or slaughter of the protesters. In addition, through a false flag operation, they would simply take to the media, and brand the entire patriot movement as a terrorist organization and turned the public against freedom lovers. Neighbor would turn against neighbor. It would be Germany all over again.

The spirit of this operation is great, but it was not appropriately planned.

 YIkes indeed!

I love the line of thinking in the comment thread.  It's like an 8 year old saying, "I could beat you up but I don't wanna."

It could have been millions.  But they didn't want to see martial law declared and everyone rounded up and or slaughtered.  What pathetic, paranoid, lying people.

Also worth noting:

The population inside the District of Columbia is ~632,000. The population of the DC metropolitan area is ~5,800,000. An event of 30,000,000 would be bringing in SIX TIMES the population of the entire region. Even a turnout of a 'mere' 10,000,000 would be doubling the population.

Think about that, for a second. What city, town, village, etc can accommodate that many additional people? In terms of roads, public transport, and simply physical space, it's simply not possible. Consider:

The National Mall has an area of 146 acres. That's 6,359,760 square feet. When estimating crowd size, you use a metric of square feet per person. Here's one expert on the subject:

"A loose crowd, one where each person is an arm's length from the body of his or her nearest neighbors, needs 10 square feet per person. A more tightly packed crowd fills 4.5 square feet per person. A truly scary mob of mosh-pit density would get about 2.5 square feet per person."

So if the National Mall were packed in like a mosh pit - all 1.9 miles of it - it could accommodate 2,543,904 people, or less than 10% of that 30,000,000. Leaving aside issues of permits, bathroom facilities, food, emergency medical care, and all the considerations required for large events, that's simply going to be impossible to achieve. The Metro can't ship in that many people, even with lots of busses to help on surface roads. It would take tens of hours using trains packed to 110% capacity to get all the people moved in one direction, and the crowd would begin to disperse before it was achieved. At best, they might get a critical density of 250,000 or so at any given moment. Which, not coincidentally, is just about the size achieved by the very largest DC rallies and marches

Long story short: someone didn't do their homework. And even worse, they didn't use common sense. 30,000,000 people in one place would pack ALL of DC like an average concert crowd, and if packed in like a mosh pit, they would fill all of the downtown area and well out into areas like Georgetown:

I love comments threads like that.

These sorts are so wrapped up in a fantasy world where they're just about to wage the Battle of Bunker Hill to free America, that when reality smacks the upside the head they simply cannot comprehend what's going on.

So of course they turn to even more conspiracies and crank up the persecution complex because they aren't able to figure out that the fantasy world they've constructed for themselves is just a fantasy.

Obama isnt going anywhere anytime soon

Why?

Simply speaking there is no reason to remove him.

There is no justification for rebellion. There is no justification for impeachment.

Just because you dont like the man does not give you the right to force your views on the rest of the United States.

All there is is a sad small little group trying to maintain relevance in days after the beshiatted ideology of the Tea Party was outed for being disastrous.

I think there's some amount of wanting to take rape "back" from the libs or something.  Really.  If the "liberal" use of the word rape is sexual assault, then this meaning is just "something bad happening."  And therefore it's opposing the libs, because reasons.

/I'm not even kidding.

I like this one....

Patriots are way past protesting, we realize the republic is in jeopardy. The enemies are within the gate and inside the house. I for one am spending my extra time; at the range, reading personnel defense tactics books, learning to grow food, and staying out of the public eye.

The government has turned against the people, and is plotting the overthrow of the country. They are close to the end game, their corruption is seeping out and the lies are not holding the truth back anymore.

Maybe it says that in whatever secret constitution they follow.

I'm sorry, I have read different stats.   http://www.gallup.com/poll/15370/party-affiliation.aspx

"Based on a poll conducted in 2014, Gallup found that 30% of Americans identified as Democrats, 23% as Republicans, and 45% as Independents. In the same poll a survey of registered voters stated that 47% identified as Democrats or leaned towards the party; the same poll found that 40% of registered voters identified as Republicans or leaned towards the Republican party. "

Taking the 40% "registered Republican/leaning Republican" out of the base of 242 M, that leaves their base with an actual number of about 96,000,000
