(NPR)   Today is Carl Kasell's last day on NPR. He kicked ass but never played a guitar. We love his voice, and salute his choice, to be on such a silly show as the star   (npr.org) divider line 46

LOL.

I loved the little tributes on the show, and definitely hadn't expected that last one

Seriously liked his work for many many years.

Enjoy your retirement sir!

Bill Kurtis was pretty good when he filled in.

Rarely post here, but I listened to the last show.  Made me realize how long I've been listening to the show, and how it's going to be different now (different isn't necessarily bad, but it'll still be different).

Having the same feelings after the announce on "Michael Feldman's Whad'ya Know?" Jim Packard died.  Just that void.

Thanks for the years, Mr. Kassell!

Neil knew how to interview and was so good at managing callers and keeping things moving. I dearly miss the political junkie segment. He had such a funny rapport with Ken Rudin.

I didn't realize how much I loved Dick Gordon until he was gone.

Here and Now has really stepped it up.

That said, there are some real stinkers. Ask Me Another pales in comparison to Wait, Wait. I don't know anyone who looks forward to On Being. TAL has been straight-up phoning it in for a year.

This. I'm hoping they offer him the gig.

Most NPR personalities don't have the strong theater friendly voices needed for live shows.

That's Carl, bottom right, playing Wanchese.  The "fella" playing Sir Walter Raleigh was his drama teacher at Goldsboro High School.  He went on to play a sheriff on some TV series.

This radio smug fest is one of the reasons why people hate liberals and intellectuals.
Also if Limbaugh or Beck were ever accused of inappropriate behavior with a minor we'd never hear the end of it.
Just sayin'.

Limbaugh has been accused of inappropriate behavior in the Dominican Republic, a country that is reputed to be a sex destination, around 2006. He definitely was found, on his return from there, to have illegal prescriptions of Viagra in his suitcase. And most people never heard about it at all.

I was at the last show on Thursday. Listened to it today on my way back from DC.

Amazing how two hours is trimmed down to under one, and I'm impressed the "hand lift" jokes made it through.

All in all, thirteen hours on the road, and I'd do it all again tomorrow. I'll miss you, Carl.

You don't need an answering machine yknow.

Also for the time being he's still recording the greetings.
