I can believe simpletons ( probably  Mexicans/-descendants) would believe that dead birds would bring them luck. My grandmother often told the story of how she caught a hummingbird in bumfark Mexico and her aunts encouraged her to squeeze it to death for luck. She says she let it go but I wonder if years of WTF is wrong with you people reactions had her changing it.
