We live in a country where it's news that someone isn't suing someone for something

They may not sue their neighbors but their medical insurance company sure will.

They should also provide the boy with ice cream forever.

In the original tv story they said it was a mutt-mix with some pit bull.

Because whining and pissing and moaning in court isn't always the answer to everything. Sometimes people actually deal with problems amongst themselves.

Previous articles say the Dog was under observation. This says it will be destroyed. But nothing I've heard or read so far has shed light on why the aberrant behavior. Why the dog was free roaming etc.

Certainly glad TMZ cleared up "who's who" in the video.

This isn't about common sense, they're good friends with dog's owners. And the boy was not seriously injured.

But if that's my cat he gets bacon every Saturday for the rest of his life.

2014-05-16 09:15:07 AM
If the dog got out once, it'll get out again. If I were the kids' dad, I'd just take 2 weeks off from work and sit in my driveway with a pistol grip pump on my lap at all times. Dog will get his judgement.

2014-05-16 09:15:40 AM
Why is that child holding a muffler?

And good.  Good that they're still friends, good that all they want is their insurance deductible, good that at least for once people are acting like human beings and not litigious asshats.  Good that the dog is being put down without fuss, great that the child will be ok and the wounds weren't horrific.

Good all around.

I, certainly, would be upset if a dog came onto my property and bit my child. But I wouldn't knee-jerk kill the dog because there's no way you could reasonably assess the situation while your child is being attacked, and I wouldn't kill the owner in cold blood (as you suggest) because I wouldn't want my child to grow up while his dad spends life in prison.

Might wanna rethink that cunning plan. The "The dog bit my child so I ran next door and killed my neighbor" defense won't hold up in court.

I guess you didn't see the stitches the kid'hs leg got. The dog dragged him down and certainly started to maul the poor before hero-kitty quickly came to the rescue.k

It was a Labrador-chow mix, stop vilifying pitbulls. What  is worse is it was a puppy at 8 months old. Chows are mean as hell. I'm glad that kid is okay.

sprgrss: How the fark is not suing here common sense?

Yeah, more like no common sense. The owners let their dog loose, unsupervised... if nothing else, it's going around crapping on other people's lawns, digging in their garbage, and being a general nuisance. In this case, it viciously attacked a little boy (I'm sure the owners are in utter disbelief that this happened, but video doesn't lie - most dog owners think their dogs are precious snowflakes, even those breeds specifically engineered to be used for dog fighting)

Unless the dog was adopted after abuse or something along those lines, I'll go out on a limb and guess the answer to both of those questions is "because it's owned by a lazy moron".

Insurance is paying it.  All they want from the neighbor is their deductible.  That's why one has insurance, to pay for unexpected things.  This was an unexpected thing.

I just watched that for the first time..that cat was AWESOME!

I blame the parent for the kid not wearing a helmet.

2014-05-16 09:19:26 AM
Good for them. The dog is being put down, which is all that is necessary. Unless the kid needs further psychological counselling, I don't see a need for a lawsuit.

Unlikely, and you know it. Suburban juries frown on owners that can't control dangerous animals. I'm a model parent - they would probably give me a medal.

sprgrss: How the fark is not suing here common sense?

This. The owners were responsible for it escaping and it attacked the child viciously. It was not playing and it has to be euthanized.

Electing not to sue might be "merciful", and it's great that they're all able to get it worked out to their satisfaction and little business of mine how they choose to do so, but let's not pretend that taking it easy on them is the same thing as common sense.

2014-05-16 09:20:52 AM
As long as it wasn't major negligence on their part I probably wouldn't want to sue either. But if their dog was always getting loose and acting aggressively, I might feel differently. It sounds like they might otherwise be good neighbors and this was just a one time incident.

I think the funniest part of the chest-thumping, wanna-be-badasses this thread will inevitably attract is the fact that none of them would have done shiat....

I always warn people about them if the topic comes up, as they don't seem to be terribly common and many people just don't know. They also give little or no warning of when they're going to bite in my experience. I'd rather handle any other dog.

If that happened in the Garden the other night, that cat would have gotten two minutes for boarding.

Wish i could point to a source, but something i saw said that the dog got out when the neighbors opened the gate for their car.  No explanation of why they didn't immediately go grab the dog, but the implication is that this was a dog kept in a fenced yard, and not one that was usually allowed to roam around the neighborhood.
