Wow... it does look like an i-Pod... scary that they thought of that design over two decades ago. I wonder where that prop went...

2004-02-09 09:23:43 AM
but why is she dressed like a hooters girl?

2004-02-09 09:26:45 AM
It is an iPod and it's not a prop.

2004-02-09 09:30:45 AM
Spooky.

Excuse me while I download quicktime 6.5, isn't it strange that they just couldn't find a way to make this video work with quicktime 5? boy, that quicktime 6.5 must have some super advanced algorithms that make it, ummmm...faster? I know this because Apple would never waste my farking time with a piece of bullshiat software. I'm sure high priest Jobs has a good reason for this.

I think they also edited her to look like a woman this time instead of a bad drag queen.

Really? No shiat? You mean that 20 years ago they were actually able to look into the future and thus put a useless device on her hip that would resemble the iPod of today?

/amazed... at some of the shiat here, not the ad

2004-02-09 11:18:11 AM
It seems the not-so-distant-future is devoid of bras... Hurray for our braless liberators!!!

Great, minutae about something that interests maybe 1% of Apple's 5% market share.

2004-02-09 11:19:23 AM
She's actually a robot - you'll understand in 20 more years.

2004-02-09 11:19:40 AM
Still the best commercial ever made, IMHO. I was an Apple-ite for the next 15 years. Finally woke up when I realized that Steve Jobs was just another version of Big Brother.

Danger Mouse,

You're correct. Gulliable is not a word. But gullible is.

How much did Hooter's pay for tie-in advertising?

2004-02-09 11:21:13 AM
Wait, you can edit digital images?!?!?! Maybe they are on to something! Maybe Fark should implement some sort of digital image editing contest! We could call it a digiedit contest and have voting and all sorts of neat stuff.
They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I'm gonna go register the domain name worth1000 so that I can run some digiedit contests myself too.

Actually, QT6 is a big step up. I think it's the version that adds MPEG4 support.

Wonder what she was supposed to be listening to?

2004-02-09 11:23:05 AM
Ooooh! Refurbed Dual 1.8Ghz G5 in the deals section for $1,999.

Dammit, I want one. I need to hide my credit card from myself. Maybe after I get my tax refund check this year :)

One of the best ads ever.

2004-02-09 11:23:49 AM

The edited the commercial for the 20th anniversary, it was released at Macworld weeks ago.

2004-02-09 11:30:19 AM
Wow, and only a month and half after the revised commercial was introduced in San Francisco. You farkers...always on top of things!

2004-02-09 11:31:18 AM
icecycle,
Are you talking about running the ad in '84? or now?

Because...
- Darwin (the Mac OS X Kernel) is open source.
- All the *nix utils are open source (taken from the BSDs mainly, some GNU stuff in there too).
- The browser (Safari) is not open source, but it is built on KHTML, and they contribute code back to the project.

So it was a completely closed source OS in '84, but not so much today.

2004-02-09 11:31:40 AM
Anybody got a linkie to the original commercial?

2004-02-09 11:32:09 AM

I just enhanced the Apple enhanced ad and look what I found:

Shouldn't this get the ironic tag since a company that has a lock on the operating system AND hardware, AND devices is trying to imply that someone else is Big Brother?

"Buy music at iTunes. Buy music at iTunes. Buy music at iTunes."
