Saw it last night. Heavily teases you for the first 45 minutes, but the rest of the movie? ...Holy shiat! The end battle between G and the 2 MUTOS is the ultimate in cool and exciting. Godzilla's finishing move was breathtaking.

I read it was mostly groups of people looking up and CGI mass destruction. You wouldn't see the big fights until the very end, and it was overall disappointing. Not true?

It. Was. AWESOME! XD

The showing I went to sold out, with a crowd of almost all die-hard fans. When we get to see Godzilla for the first time, everyone (myself included) jumped up and cheered. There was lots of cheering and applause during the climactic fight and through the end credits. While I want to avoid spoilers, I'll just say that we nearly blew the roof off the joint when we witnessed the power of this fully armed, and operational, Godzilla. ^_^

Bottom line is, this Godzilla is second only to the original 1954 classic. It's that damn good! :D

Typically it's going to be something seafood + a mess on a hoagie style roll.  As with most everything food-related the name of the sandwich applies more to the form than the contents.

The only other review I've read panned most of the cast, but also said:

"But that's ok because the actual leads in the movie are (in order):

1. Bryan Cranston
2. Bryan Cranston
3. CGI Godzilla
4. Ken Watanabe
5. Bryan Cranston again"

Can you give me some advice?  My wife and I are looking forward to it and are planning to see it in 2-D since most 3-D flicks we've seen in the last year or so haven't been worth it (not worth the cost and the 3D effects were not really thrilling). Would you recommend Godzilla to be seen in 3D or do you think 2D is/would be just as awesome.

Metacritic is polarized over it, but there's more good reviews than bad.  Supposedly there's some good slow-burn tension in there.  I plan on seeing it.

As a huge Kaiju fan I am STOKED to see this movie. I spent the last few weeks binge watching all the 20+ movies even the horribad ones with Minizilla and the stupid kid with the robbers in the dream island.  There are some wretched movies and some down right amazing XPLOSION++ ones.

Taking the kid to see it in 3D if possible. If not we roll to the regular version and I'll go see it in IMAX 3-D OMGBIGZ! version on a sleepy wednesday alone.

I hate you and all the memories you have flooded me with.

I must have seen a different movie than some of you. It was -boring-. Human interest is only good if the humans are INTERESTING.  Every time they teased up some great action sequence it cut away to a new report or a small group of soldiers humping it over broken terrain.  We get bits and pieces of awesome stuff but it always breaks away to something dull.  I must have started cussing at the screen a half dozen times.

The soundtrack was also lacking. It failed to deliver the sort of gravitas giant fighting monsters require, and I full take responsibiliy for how silly that phrase sounds.  But it was all soft sad 'oh no, look at the carnage' violins. Not once did they play the iconic theme song.

There was nothing in the movie to warrant seeing it in 3d. Save your money.

As for the 'finishing move' it was just that. There was no epic brawl between the two. Godzilla fell down and took a nap, then got up and did something kind of cool but had no lead in. Then he fell down and took another nap.

I was disappointed. They spent a lot more time showing the monsters from Klendathu than Godzilla. But at least this time, it's actually Godzilla (and not just in name only). But yeah, it's pretty much focused on human reaction shots, even during most of the battles. I was gonna say "American studios just can't do awesome monster fights" but Pacific Rim exists.

The movie wasn't bad at all. Some great ideas. Just the payoff after all that set up was rather lackluster than what you were hoping for.

Oh, hey. I could have just said THIS.

The first reveal of Godzilla, I was like "aw yeah!" Then they just cut away and show a kid watching the battle on TV, and we're all like, how come we the audience aren't seeing that battle?!

And Godzilla's primary ignition sequence was another great moment.

Saw it last night & enjoyed it but it pretty much dies between the CGI action sequences, the usual exposition flaws. Not enough Bryan Cranston. Also, there are a TON of subtle echoes of old Sci-Fi flicks in this picture from MOTHRA to THE BIRDS. This movie will be fun to take apart slowly.

/GO GIGANTIS!

Let me clarify - what fight scenes we saw were GREAT. We just didn't get to see them. Some of the moves were very classic Toho redone well in CG. The monsters had weight and substance to them.   We just didn't get to see the fights in all their glory, and that disappointed me greatly.

I liked it A LOT, although it has a few flaws.

1. It's too much of a U.S. military recruiting commercial. Too many scenes feature guys in uniforms looking for monsters, or doing implausible things while spouting pseudo-technical gibberish. This didn't bother me, but then I enjoyed "Battleship"; I acknowledge it's a problem.
2. The hero is played as a department store mannequin by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The Bryan Cranston and Ken Watanabe dialogue scenes are pretty good; the scenes with ATJ or Elizabeth Olsen (younger sister of the twins) are not.

Everything else is fantastic; there are some absolutely epic visuals (Godzilla diving under an aircraft carrier, as seen from overhead, is amazing). I like how they continually tease the monster battles before really getting into them. And when Big G finally breaks out the fire breath -- WHOA!

Ha, I'm 47 and the "horribad ones" were some of my favorites! But mostly because I was roughly the same age as the kid. And now, because nostalgia.

It's pretty accurate. Godzilla's finishing moves are pretty brutal.

If you've seen the 90s Gamera films, these look like really expensive Gamera fights. There will be blood.

Great freaking movie!  Very much a Toho styled film with several shout-outs to some of the classic films.  Lots of easter eggs that can be exploited in future films, which I truly hope they do!

If you are expecting a Pacific Rim type movie, you will be disappointed.

If you are expecting a Godzilla film, it delivers!

It was awesome.  Took my son to the 7pm showing last night, IMAX 3D.   3D is definitely worth it for this one.  IMAX...meh.  But it's a giant monster movie, so I figured it deserved a giant movie screen.

Will see again.   And maybe again.

Oh, and if you've never seen the original Japanese-language "Gojira," get thee to a rental website, pronto! It's approximately two billion times better than the American version, which was chopped up and spliced with scenes of Raymond Burr mumbling at people. The Japanese original is a taut action movie, a tragic romantic love triangle, and an anti-nuclear-weapons cautionary tale. The American version is a dumb monster movie with Raymond Burr in it.
