(Independent)   It's been a great season so far for basking-shark spotting in Cornwall, so naturally idiots in boats are running into them   (independent.co.uk ) divider line

I have family in Tor Point, Cornwall.  I ought to ask them if they've seen any sharks in their area.

/and if you actually have sharks in your "area", you might want to see your doctor.

Crew Member Billy Burton said: "Guests have been absolutely blown away by the sightings they have had. There is something awe-inspiring terrifying about seeing a 25-foot shark approach you, mouth wide open."

I don't care if they're not hunting us, giant animals should not be farked with. Hell, if I'm in the water and anything more than 2 feet comes near me, I freak out.

Last year in Key West, I drove a jet ski above a 5-6 foot shark and I almost had a heart attack.

It's really just the same shark, but he's got a few disguise fins.

Basking sharks are farking awesome.

Some friends of mine saw one when they were out in kayaks up here in Puget Sound.

Unfortunately, no one knew what it was and they were all terrified.

Good to know a few are left. There used to be tons, like in Cornwall, but the governments of Washington and BC considered them a nuisance to fisherman and actively supported strategies to eliminate them, like putting basically nasty razor like things on boats and encouraging people to kill them. So now they are almost never seen and are considered locally extirpated - locally extinct.

I only learned this recently and it made me really sick to my stomach.
