I think that the Pats signed Tebow in part because they had concerns about Hernandez and thought Tebow could help keep him in line, based on the fact that they had been teammates at Florida.

It's an indication that the Pats really had no idea of the extent of Hernandez's off-the-field activites--if all of the allegations are true, then Hernandez was already a multiple murderer when they signed Tebow. Hernandez's house was searched by the cops about a week after the Tebow signing (which was just before minicamp). Hernandez was arrested, and Tebow was cut at the end of training camp.

Fantasy football tip: There are several lists and databases of NFL players with felony arrests and/or convictions. Use these lists when selecting your fantasy football team. One year I only selected an "all-perp" team and finished second in my league. I called my team "Mama Tried", after the Merle Haggard song with the chorus: "And I turned twenty-one in prison doing life without parole, No one could steer me right but mama tried, mama tried..."

SlothB77: Khellendros: SlothB77: so will this trial be after he is convicted of the other murder charge?  "Sure, he was convicted of that other murder, but he totally didn't do these two."

In many places, that is the difference between 20 years in jail and a needle. It matters legally and morally.

a prior murder conviction sure doesn't look good in a murder trial.

Is prior conviction isn't going to be admissible. That is, unless Hernandez gets on the stand and says something stupid like "honestly, I've never killed anyone in my life!", in which case it can be offered in rebuttal. But his lawyer won't let him do that.

It's been known and hidden by his coaches for a long time. In Florida, they made Tim Tebow his mentor to help him change his ways. Of course, watching Tebow throw the ball will make you want to murder people, especially when his followers claim he's starting material, so maybe the plan wasn't fully thought out down there.

That is, if he's convicted of the first murder charge.

Last story I read said that case was falling apart fast.  I'm guessing the evidence for the other one isn't too much better

Then there's the small detail of the missing murder weapon.  Basically all there is, as far as I can tell, is circumstantial evidence of his guilt.  Any good attorney that a multi-millionaire NFL player gets can beat that rap easy.

Would not be surprised if he walked completely on all the charges.

Would also not be surprised if he cops a plea to a lesser charge to avoid the chance that he goes to prison for life.  All those millions sitting there for 5-10 years, not being spent, invested wisely by his attorney or agent would make a nice post-release fund.

Look, I'm not whitewashing the NHL here. But with only twice as many players, let's not think for a moment that the NHL is even remotely close to the behavior problems the NFL is. Hell, they suspend you for insulting a player whose dating your ex girlfriend.

I'm always curious about the psychology of a guy like this. What's his end-game? He's got more money than he can spend already from football, he's got women, cars, goes to clubs and gets treated like a VIP, whatever he wants. He's respected in his profession, despite that profession being a game. The world is pretty much open to him and if he's smart, he'll never have to do a real day's work in his life. He will live better than 99% of the known universe and all he has to do is not kill people.

So why the stupid gang shiat? What was he getting there that he couldn't get from all the other stuff (aside from the fun of shooting people, I guess). Was he just so pampered because he was an athlete that he never figured he'd get caught? Is reality so distorted that he doesn't even have a concept of murder or consequences? Is his ego really so big and fragile that someone mouthing off at a club is a hunt-and-kill offense? Does he go home afterwards and feel proud of what he's accomplished? How does he define success?

In short, what kind of life are you hoping to lead if you expect your night out on the town to involve killing people?

I know there's no rational explanation for murder, but WTF must be going through this guy's mind? I can't even conceive of a brain so alien that any of this would seem reasonable to someone in his position.

No doubt would be interesting. Many pro athletes throw away careers on drugs and crime but this goes beyond them all, further even than the enculturation of gang culture. What made him or contributed to his condition would no doubt be fascinating.

Hernandez also faces charges in the death of 27-year-old Odin Lloyd in North Attleborough, Mass. last year.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty to murder in the Lloyd case. He was arrested and charged last June 26 and is being held without bail after Lloyd's body was found near his North Attleborough home June 17.

Hernandez will get out of that one, he didn't do it.

Turns out Lloyd was illiterate and could only learn to read by hanging out by a tree in his back yard and stabbing himself in the side.

So sad. But he'll be back in a few days.

As to the numbers of murderers that are or have played in the NHL (7) and NFL (34). If you look at numeric populations for each group, and break it down by the current structures you'll find the following information:

Max # on an                                  NHL Team: 23 ---- NFL Team: 53
Number of                                     NHL Teams: 30  ---- NFL Teams: 32
Max # of players in a season                  NHL: 690 --- NFL: 1696

Number of roster changes                      NHL 3.68 ---- NFL: 6
Average player plays                              NHL 5.7 Yrs  NFL 3.5 Yrs
Number of years                   30 NHL teams 21 Yrs --- 32  NFL Teams: 21 Yrs

~Total players                                          NHL: 2539   ---  NFL: 10176
Murderers per sport                                NHL: 7          ---  NFL: 34
~ Players/Murderers ratio:                    NHL   1:362.7 ---  NFL: 1:299.3
~ # of M's/Player                                   NHL   0.0028  --- NFL: 0.0033
~ Percentage of player muderers         NHL   0.28%   --- NFL: 0.33%

~ Number of players not murderers:       NHL 2532     --- NFL: 10142

While high profile when it happens, Killers in the NHL and the NFL are both relatively close in relative numbers adjusted by population size.

I know there's no rational explanation for murder, but WTF must be going through this guy's mind? I can't even conceive of a brain so alien that any of this would seem reasonable to someone in his position.

Wanna know how I know you don't know fark-all about football?

And that is relevant because...?

Are you implying that playing football also makes people psychotic? Are you saying that because I'm not a hardcore football fan that I'm not allowed to speculate on the mindset of someone who has unlimited success being also so willing to throw it away on nothing more than hurt feelings? Are you saying that if I sat in front of my TV every Sunday, drank beer, got fat, and talked about the intricate minutia of a game that I would somehow also understand the motivations of a murderer?

Your point, I'm honestly not seeing it.

"Why the stupid gang shiat?" Gang is supposed to be for life. I've heard it stressed that Gang is Family. But I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that not every gang member out there does stupid assed shiat either. There are a lot of sociological and cultural reasons for why gangs exist and what behaviors are expected within the gang. Going off half-cocked and doing a non-authorized drive by isn't a sanctioned gang activity.

A psycopath is a psychopath, regardless of his pay scale and social upbringing. A man fueled by rage and imagined slights is bound to make a name for himself in an unsavory way. You look at a confrontation at a night club as being a nuisance and something you wouldn't want to derail your career. That's thinking using intellect and logic, not emotion. Couple standard emotional responses with narcissism and unregulated aggression, and you have all the answers you need.

My brother in law is a convicted murderer, ex-gang member. He explained it rather simply: It comes down to 'respect'. Not what you or I would consider respect, but the street respect, that he's 'hard' and 'tough'. That within the realms of the gang lifestyle, he's 'more' gang member than the others, that even with all the talents, money and success, he was still the tough sonuvabiatch that he always was. Certainly, he could have left it behind, but he stayed within the culture of the gang lifestyle. It may be as simple as not wanting to be a sellout in the eyes of his fellow gang members, that the money hadn't changed him, and he could still get the things he wanted out of life through the skills he learned as a gang banger, instead of the skills he learned on the field and in school.

Never mind all the stuff that you mentioned; for some reason, his mind reasoned he had to be seen as a force or power in the element in which he grew up. This goes beyond the normal hangers-on that most football players collect on their ladder to the NFL, but something deeper, that he needs a certain element to believe he has power. That's why he was always involved in gangs, and after a HUGE payday, the world splayed out at his feet like a whore begging for a deep dicking, he kept up the facade that he was from the streets and holds power over those that are still deep in the street/thug life.

In short: He needed someone, somewhere to believe he was a powerful individual, beyond what the money could buy.

I can get behind that.
It's farking un-American.
It's organized crime.
It's rapey.
It's stupid.
It's meaningless.
People that get excited about it are getting excited about something stupid and meaningless.
People that do that tend to get murderey.

I mean, what is that, like Bronies for football?

If people spent more time thinking of ways to make the government better and more efficient, reading books and learning things, thinking of ways to end pollution and preserving the environment, contemplating how to end war and poverty on the planet for good, and creating and inventing things, rather than watching distracting and pointless games on TV, the planet would probably be a lot better off.

Can't argue with that...

doesn't he just scream guilty as sin?

If you wanna see a guy everyone would assume was guilty, maybe try this one:  img.fark.net

Since this is an indictment for a crime committed before the contact extension, doesn't this allow the Pat'ss get his current contract off the current cap. I think the Pat's have around 7.5 mil in dead cap money from that contract this season (this may have been cut in half).

Your rant was amusing up until Fark fantasy football. Fark fantasy football? Oh hell noes. It's one of the few
chances I have to act all uppity about something anymore. (I won all three of my leagues, or haven't you heard?)
May the FSM send a thousand fleas, immune to chemicals, to infest your crotch area for having such evil thoughts.

keypusher: MugzyBrown: jayphat: Per your list, there are 7 hockey players on that list. There are 34 football players. So really, go there again.

So you're an NHL fan because they're slightly better than NFL players?

That's the logic you're using?

If my team beats your team 34-7, you better not come in here saying we're "slightly better."

30 x 23 = 690
32 x 53 = 1696
690/7 = 99
1696/34 = 50

So taking the total number of players in the league into account it is more accurate to say that football players make that list at twice the rate of hockey players.

/Not that that makes it better, but at least it is a more legitimate comparison

TheOther: rynthetyn: themunsterfullback: Peaceboy: If people didn't like seeing Michael Sam getting kissed on the mouth by his boyfriend when he was drafted, wait'll they see how this guy's cellmate greets him.

Bit better effort then the whole TE/WR thing that got old after the first one was written and some other juvenile ones.  On a more serious related comment, isn't he in isolation because he kept randomly kicking the shiat out of other inmates?

Yep, he's quite the violent one. What other celebrity inmate has landed in isolation because they're a danger to other inmates and not the reverse?

Martha Stewart

Ctrl-Alt-Del: Acravius: ~ Players/Murderers ratio: NHL 1:362.7 --- NFL: 1:299.3
~ # of M's/Player NHL 0.0028 --- NFL: 0.0033
~ Percentage of player muderers NHL 0.28% --- NFL: 0.33%

1) Nice analysis
2) Holy farking shiat - that's like 4-5 times the rate of murderers in the general population.

Adjusted for age and gender?  What percentage of murders in the United States do you think are committed by men in the age range of NFL players?  80% 90%

/You can tell I'm lazy, can't you.
