(Popular Science)   And here comes a new study that says that e-cigarettes are, in fact, dangerous and need to be regulated. And you can trust the opinion of the Center for Tobacco Control Research and Education, of course. Totally unbiased. Totally   (popsci.com) divider line 19

E cigs are not as bad as cigarettes, but nicotine is a powerful and addictive drug and should be regulated.

Nicotine in all its forms should be regulated.

Straight nicotine isn't that bad, actually. Slop it together with some minor MAOIs and tinker with smoke chemistry to maximize absorption rate and you've got a monster.

Pretty much everybody who has moved from smoking to vaping can tell you it doesn't quite scratch the itch the same way, but it's usually enough to get by.

Oh, yeah, and it should be regulated, but more for being a potent poison that absorbs through skin than being a potentially life-wrecking like amphetamines.

It should have some basic regulations, to be sure.  No use under 18, clear product labeling, that sort of thing.  But it's really absurd the lengths some people go to.

It already is, so what's your point?

Is that study from the tobacco industry or the "We've spent our careers demonizing tobacco and now the alternative will leave us powerless, so we better stamp it out before we're truly powerless" industry?

Pretty sure it is the latter.

This is where I work, the Academy of Tobacco Studies. It was established by seven gentlemen you may recognize from C-Span. These guys realized quick if they were gonna claim cigarettes were not addictive they better have proof. This is the man they rely on, Erhardt Von Grupten Mundt. They found him in Germany. I won't go into the details. He's been testing the link between nicotine and lung cancer for thirty years, and hasn't found any conclusive results. The man's a genius, he could disprove gravity.

Why? Just because its addictive? So is sugar.

Nicotine's also carcinogenic in and of itself. I'm sure all the other crap in tobacco tar contributes measurably as well, so the vapor rigs could conceivably be a modest improvement. Doesn't mean that they should continue to have no regs.

Nicotine is also a fairly lethal poison.

I never got much out of real cigs. I have to chain cape to feel anything so I can't wait until juice comes with maois and gets smoother.

I can definitely vouch for healthiness of vapes. Vape more, smoke less and suddenly all the junk in your lungs start pouring out.

I'm not too wild about the chems in the mix, but I think its still better than cigs.

You're right. I got it wrong. What actually happens is that nicotine makes some cancers arising from other causes worse.

Still seems like as good a reason as any to avoid use.

Why do all of these studies talk about the effect on the lungs and airway? None of the people around me that use vapor pens even draw it into their lungs, just hold the vapor in the mouth similar to a cigar. They can say it's not any better for you as much as they want, all of us that quit smoking with the help of vape pens know they are simply wrong...

sure, it's not harmless, i'll give them that. but reduction of symptoms caused by smoking cigarettes is good enough for us...

There are two things more retarded than smoking:  Vaping, and the word vape.
