If the Bruins were jobbed solely by the officiating, I would have backed them 100% if they walked right into the dressing room without the handshakes. But they shut down after Game 5, and you can't blame the refs or the crossbar for that.

That said, you do the handshake and the sportsmanship stuff.

This is why all NHL games should include a pistol for each side with two or three shots in it.  There would be no more need for fighting.  Everyone would show a little more respect if you could shoot someone on the other team.  Sure, a few players might die, but that's the risk you take with a sport like hockey.  They already live by a warriors code...

I think I heard elsewhere (the article was pretty thin *I know, welcome to fark*) that he was pissed about an 'over exuberant' goal celebration.  Get over yourself, Mr. Chest Bump Celebration Man.  Go re-read the anti-bullying book you wrote too.  Ass.

Luccic was being an ass. He's being a poor sport

Dale Weise is being an ass by making a big deal of it.

Not to let Lucic off for being an ass, because some should tell him to appologize and then take him out to the zamboni garage and beat him.

But you won Weise. biatching about it to the press is just as poor a sport. And all you have done is paint a bullseye on your back. It might have been just a poor sport throwing a tantrum before, but you just made sure that he's gonna come for you. Kinda reminds me of Chara/Pacioretty. Chara was gunning for him for a whole season, and Pacioretty was ducking him. Until Chara nearly broke his neck head hunting:

No, I'm not celebrating someone nearly getting killed. But lets also remember that Chara didn't get fined or suspended, because it wasn't a super dirty hit either.

Good try, Habs fan.

1. I didn't excuse his behavior.
2. Two - the player in question is not a native of Mass, he is a Canadian. So maybe you Canadians should try to act better.
3. I threatened him? Listen, my fat ass would last all of 1.5 seconds on the ice with him. I haven't skated in forever, and he would knock my ass out. So, I'm pretty sure I won't be the one headhunting.

No Weise is better because talking about it in the press lets everybody know what a scum bag Lucic is... if people didn't know due to his fine/suspension history.

It should have been pointed out because there's no place for assholes like Lucic in a professional sports league.

And just because Chara didn't get suspended doesn't make the hit any less awful.  Chara should have been given a year.

You are excusing his behaviour, despite what you say. Saying that Weise is just as much of an ass because xyz is your excuse. "He was a douche, but it's ok because the other guy is a douche too".

I never made any comment about where Lucic is from, just the mentality of the team he plays for.

I didn't mean that you personally were threatening him, but to insinuate that he deserves to get a cheap shot for calling out Lucic for his dumb ass comments, and then posting a photo of Chara breaking (yes, BREAKING, not nearly) Pacioretty's neck? You're practically giving your blessing for that type of goonish behaviour.

What Weise did to piss off Lucic was to mock him for his behavior.   Lucic acted like an asshole and Weise held a mirror up to his behavior, Lucic did not like it, and made threats during the handshake.  And Weise called him on it publicly.  There is no moral equivilency.  Lucic is in the wrong.

This really bums me out because I used to like Lucic.  I thought he was a physical but talented hockey player.  But, because of his actions (going for players nuts and his behavior during he series), I've come to the conclusion that he's an asshole.

2014-05-15 09:25:22 AM
From another article:

"The 2012 Bruins entered the playoffs with all the hopes of a defending Stanley Cup champion. They, too, lost Game 7 in Boston on a Wednesday night to another team that favors "le bleu, blanc et rouge."

There was something else notable about that Game 7 in 2012. Lucic played 19:50 without a shot on goal. He nearly duplicated that performance Wednesday with zero shots in 17:51 of ice time.Think about that. Two Game 7s. Two losses at home. A healthy 37:40 of ice time and zero shots on goal. And he's set to make $6 million next season.

"Frustrating," he said. "We lost. We let our fans down when we had a great opportunity with a team like this. Like I said, it's a tough one to swallow."

But Lucic was most angry at what was said by Montreal in the post-game handshake line. He reportedly told Dale Weise: "I'm going to [expletive] kill you next year."

Too bad he didn't feel that way about the puck. Glad to see Looch's priorities are in order. How about a vow to take a shot the next time he's playing a Game 7?"

That sums it up nicely.

No, you have completely missed the point I was making.
1. Lucic is an asshole for acting the way he did.
2. Weise is a poor winner for making a big deal of it.
3. That this shiat can get out of hand, and end poorly.

I don't think Weise deserves a cheap shot, but I think he has all but asked for one. The best bet is that the first game they play each other, Lucic throws the gloves down right away, Weise fights him, and they get this out of their systems.

And thats why I brought up Chara/
Pacioretty. It festered and Chara went hunting. I don't want Lucic/Weise to end up like Chara/Pacioretty .

Well, Pacioretty, after talking to Chara, said he didn't think Chara did it intentionally. But I don't know. I know I couldn't pull off what Chara did, even in my prime playing hockey. But I'm not a professional, and I wasn't there.

The whole reason I brought up Chara/Pacioretty is because Chara had a beef with him for a while. If you watched the game a month earlier(which got so out of hand, Thomas fought Price), Chara kept trying to get him. It became a thing, and end very poorly.

That's my problem. Lucic isn't justified at all, and he should apologize, but Weise isn't helping by throwing fuel on the fire.

Indeed.

SlagginOff: Actually, I would say that threatening someone in the handshake line is the type of shiat that ends poorly. But obviously if you're a fan of a team that employs a dirtbag player, you have to defend him, lest your fan card be revoked.

I admit I'm a homer. But I fully think Lucic is an asshole, and I currently am disgusted with his bullshiat this season. The nut shot, someone posted here a vine of him sneaking in a cheap shot.

That crap just pisses me off.

The handshake thing really doesn't. I honestly think it's a punk move, but I hardly think it;s worthy of calling out in the press.

The other shiat Lucic he should have his balls nailed to a chair for.

I think the best line I have heard about it is from Maine sports radio "The Big Jab".
"Oh, you're fired up in the handshake line? Too bad you weren't fired up in the 1st period."

BTW - Thanks for debating this with me all of you. Kinda like a period of mourning, it's helps to vent.

I don't excuse Lucic's behavior durring the series. The handshake thing is baby shiat. The Bruins should tell him to knock that shiat off, and fine him. I think making a big deal of the handshake disrespect is just stupid.

Publikwerks: MugzyBrown: Publikwerks: but it was awful because of where it happened, not because of how Chara hit him

Yeah, and a professional athlete is supposed to be aware of their surroundings and be able to control their body.

I'm sure Chara wasn't trying to break his neck, but he knew what he was doing.

So it was Pacioretty's fault? He should have allowed Chara to punch him in the face earlier so chara didn't have to push his head into th stanchion?

Chara had a beef with him because Pacioretty had the gall to score an overtime goal the game before and then gave him a little nudge because he was about to run into him.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Sw-6Ct2Q_2c

That's right, I forgot why. See, it's stupid shiat. And No, it's not Pacioretty's fault. But was WWI German's fault? Not really. It was a series of events that snowballed out of control. Chara and Pacioretty  snowballed out of control. Being a dick in the handshake line is stupid shiat, but by making a big deal out of it, it can snowball out of control.

That's my issue with Weise. This hardly warrants being brought up at all. Make a deal of it, and you're only going to make things worse.

MugzyBrown: Publikwerks: What  I'm saying this shiat gets out of hand. Lucic was an ass, and that's not cool. But he was acting like an ass after a tough loss. It's not acceptable, but Weise is no better. You won, why the fark do you care is the loser disrespected you. You beat him, let him fume on the golf course.

Your right. There is no room for assholes in a professional sports league.  Nor is there room for assholes in this classroom i'm in right now, or writing on this board.  But there is, because the world has assholes. Get over it.

BTW - I think we need to revisit the "Mentality of the team".

See, a majority of the team is Canadian, and I think it's the subversive Canadian element that has lead us here. I mean, Toronto elected a crack addict mayor, Canada clearly has an issue with it's moral compass.

I'm not sure how we correct this Canadian corruption. I mean, maybe we start a campaign, reach out to the Canadian hockey gangs hiding out behind the Tim Hortins. Teach them about fair play, about how professionals play hockey, not that shinny hockey they play out on the pond or even worse, Street hockey. If we can get to the kids before that, then maybe we have a chance.

Game 7....Playoffs....emotional time during a violent sport....something bad was said to someone?  Shocking.  My guess is, this isn't the first time something stupid was said, nor will it be the last time.  It's just that everyone heard about it this time.

I like the sportsmanship handshake, though I also think it is stupid to expect two teams who have beat the bag out of each other for 7 games to drop everything and say "hey, great series...good luck going forward...you really kicked our asses out there, but it was all great fun..." especially if anything shady had been happening.

First, the disclaimer.  I grew up a Sabres fan, which translates into "I grew up hating the Bruins" (almost as much as the Bills fan in me grew up hating the Dolphins).

I'd always had a grudging admiration for Lucic, til he ran Miller a couple of years ago.  The fact he didn't even get penalized (much less a suspension from that asshole Shanahan) really stuck in my craw.

Now he's degenerating into a douchetard player whose skills are going to be overridden by his lack of class.  Kinda like someone else I remember watching...

Could you work out some sort of playoffs tradeoff system?  Like, you get all the hockey you want during the playoffs, but after that you get no TV control for a while to even it out?  That's probably what I'd do.

I don't, so I had to look it up. Claude Lemieux  got called out by Dino Caccrelli in the video after a hit from behind that resulted in a concussion, broken jaw, broken nose and broken cheekbone. Lemieux got suspended for that.

So, you're saying that's on par with telling someone "I'm gonna kill you next year"

What Lucic did was amaturish. Weise complaining to the press about it is childish.

I'm glad Iginla lost.  That's what you get for trying to ship yourself to contenders, instead of, you know, earning it with your team.   That's the real classless move, here.

Lucic plays like a douche.  Perfect for the Bruins line-up.  (He seems nice enough in real life)

2014-05-15 11:41:09 AM
"They just have some guys that do some disrespectful things," Weise said in the victorious locker room. "Even in the handshake line they had a couple guys - or sorry, just one - that couldn't put it behind them and be a good [loser]. Milan Lucic had a few things to say to a couple guys."

I hate, HATE, the Habs, but there is nothing here that is wrong or somehow fueling a fire.  He's correct and what Lucic did is an affront to sportsmanship, and, more accurately, being an adult.  The only, ONLY, people that watch hockey that don't think what Weise said is honest and deserved are the Bruins, their fans, and probably Colin Campbell.

2014-05-15 11:47:16 AM

Publikwerks: But you won Weise. biatching about it to the press is just as poor a sport. And all you have done is paint a bullseye on your back. MugzyBrown: Publikwerks: but it was awful because of where it happened, not because of how Chara hit him

Yeah, and a professional athlete is supposed to be aware of their surroundings and be able to control their body.

I'm sure Chara wasn't trying to break his neck, but he knew what he was doing.

i think Chara forgets how strong he can be sometimes.

Lucic plays like a douche.  Perfect for the Bruins line-up.  (He seems nice enough in real life)

Normally I would agree with you (I'm looking at you Marion Hossa), but dude, he played for Calgary. I think we can forgive him in this particular case. That's like having to play for the Panthers your whole career.

Nothing like practically sleepwalking though a game 7 and waiting until the handshake line before you show emotion and just how tough you are.

Lucic absolutely deserves a heap of sh*t for this.

If Lucic had shown an ounce of the intensity he displayed in the handshake line during the previous 120 minutes of play, Boston might not be booking tee times.  I can't believe that guy is getting 6mil per year.

Wonder where Iginla will end up in his quest for a cup next year.  I'm sure plenty of teams can find ~1.5m of cap space for him next year.

He's a biatch.  The whole game he was taunting Lucic, mimicing his silly flex move and chest thump, then whines to the media when Lucic gives him shiat about it.

He's that kid who annoys a bigger kid by mimicing everything,  "Stop copying me!"  "Stop copying me lololol", who then cries to Mommy (the press) when the bigger kid threatens him.  What a coont!

I have read every reply so far on this thread, and a lot of posts this past week, and come to the conclusion that the majority of Bruins fans are ignorant raytards.

That is the totality of my input into this debate.

2014-05-15 12:19:03 PM

Publikwerks: Moleculo: You are excusing his behaviour, despite what you say.

And thats why I brought up Chara/Pacioretty. It festered and Chara went hunting. I don't want Lucic/Weise to end up like Chara/Pacioretty .

"I'm not saying she deserves to be raped, but the way she's dressing, she's certainly asking for it".

I'm sorry, you were saying he deserves it. You can take it back, apologize, and rephrase if you like.

But then, so could Looch.

Lucic brought the mockery on himself when he chest thumped an empty net goal in game 2

2014-05-15 12:25:14 PM

fatalvenom: From another article:

Yep.  Both Lucic and Marshand were utterly invisible the last three games, hell if Marshmouth hadn't taken a couple of stupid penalties in game 7 nobody would have known he even dressed.  This is the kind of stuff that seperates players from good players and good players from great players.  By showing everyone he's more interested in settling scores than winning games he's just given every other team in the East the golden playbook on him.  Chareilli and Julien had better sit Milan down and straighten him out before he goes full Bertuzzi on someone and becomes a 6 million dollar millstone.

If you want to put a stop to the behaviours of guys like Lucic and Cooke, then you need to punish them hard.  A first disciplinary offence can be happenstance, just a bad hit or maybe the optics were poor.  Suspend for whatever amount of time.  Your second one, minimum ten games.  Your third one, half a season, team can't dress another player in your absence.  Fourth, a full season, team can't dress another player in your absence, team forfeits 10% of player's annual salary to Player Safety fund.  Fifth, banned for life, team forfeits one full year of player's annual salary to Player Safety fund.

This doesn't water down the league at all - it just stops stupid plays.  Games can be plenty physical without guys showing intent to injure or being malicious.  We see it all the time.  But there are plenty of guys out there, guys like Lucic, Torres, Cooke, and plenty of others, those guys have either ended careers or seriously hurt guys.

I just read the whole pacioretty and chara thing.

So Chara was mad that patches pushed him a little when Chara skated right in front of him as sort of a territory marking move, after patches scored the GW goal.

And Chara tried fighting him the next game because he felt dissed that patches would push him after purposefully skating right in front of him

And so if patches fought chara for basically no reason then he would not have had a broken neck?

I cannot remember who was saying this in the thread but they have to be the most retarded bruins fan in this entire galaxy

To be fair, a TSN reporter on the ice during the handshake line tweeted about it.  Then Weiss was asked about it in the post game interview.  I don't think Weiss brought it up on his own until he was asked.

/That's how it appeared last night in the timeline I watched.  I may not have seen everything.

I have been trying to find the video of Weise "complaining". The locker room interview with Weise didn't mention it anything specific. Lucic's interview just made him sound like a sore loser. It was a tough series. The Bruins outplayed them in handily in Games 1 and 5 but the Canadiens were better when it counted.

fatalvenom: Oh...he's a Masshole now? Usually we get to hear how all the players on the Bruins are Canadian. But when one of them acts like a punk ass he's now American, Subby?

EABOD.

In the same way that the Canadiens have been called "frogs" during the series when there aren't many. It's guilt by association

MugzyBrown: And just because Chara didn't get suspended doesn't make the hit any less awful.  Chara should have been given a year.

THIS!  Every hockey player at that level knows exactly where the dangerous parts of the rink are at all times.  That includes Chara, even if Maxipad was hiding from a check by skating there

UncleStumpy: They both acted like ten year olds. Simple as that

One of them doesn't bodycheck goaltenders and spear people in the nuts.

Damn! Late to the party on this one.

I gotta say the most class I saw during that game was on last night's hockey thread.
I expected Boston fans and Montreal fans to go to war last night and after the game, all hell to break loose.

Fans of both teams congratulated each other on a hard fought series and made the thread enjoyable to be a part of.
Even bitter enemies on that thread put their differences a side to discuss what their teams should do next year to make themselves better. Some were choked that Boston lost but didn't bury the Canadiens for it.

In my opinion, I thought the Boston fans on last night's thread showed way more class than Lucic any day.

Ha! Lucic... I remember watching him with the Vancouver Giants and the Memorial Cup and he was and will always be a douchebag.

Weird, I didn't know that in the last week, Dale Weise change his jersey number.  And his position.  And his name.
