Well, at least they're not complaining it will turn their kids gay. That's a step up, I guess.

Parent Elaine Bolman found it offensive that her daughter or her classmates would be asked to dress up like a stereotypical Native American caricature.

Would be asked? Isn't a talent show voluntary?

What a farkin' biatch busybody.

/And yea, I also thought it would be for the gay reasons before I got to that last word

2014-05-15 12:29:54 AM
Actually, it would be a caricature of the Village People's caricature.

Not sure where to go with that thought...

She's kinda right.  Although Felipe Rose is 1/2 Native American (Lakota Sioux on his mother's side) there are some issues with anyone who is non-Native to be wearing that gear or a caricature of it.

No, she's objecting to the Ghey She's just hiding it behind this bullshiat.

It is actually extremely insensitive to wear headdresses and stuff like that, so fine by me.
Not sure about cancelling the whole show... Just don't dress up?

2014-05-15 12:55:59 AM
Really...  ONE, just ONE stupid beeyotch complains for a retarded reason. And the school backed down?

So what now?  Are we supposed to just forget that american indians actually, you know... wore feathered head dresses and such.

Why the fark is it racist now to dress as another culture that's not your own?

2014-05-15 12:57:44 AM
How is this any different from schools disallowing any american Indian mascots or team names?  Geez, Rutgers canceled a Cinco De Mayo event because one person complained that it was racist.

Get over it. Difficulty: no backsass.

That is the dumbest logic I ever heard.

Personally, I think it's inappropriate as hell for First Graders to be doing a song about hook-ups (gay or straight)  Would it be OK if they were doing a song about Afternoon Delight?  Same time frame, same song theme (sex advice)

What about the gay cowboy look?
Or the gay leather man caricature?

I've stopped wearing tight black leather outfits because people keep thinking I'm gay. South Park didn't help as my surname is Slave.

Even if he is half Sioux, it's still tacky of him to wear it as part of disco gig. Especially since he didn't earn that headdress. It would be like if you were a DJ and you were wearing a Medal of Honor at your rave because you thought it looked sweet under the light of all of those glow sticks and UV lights. Would it matter if you have decedents in the military or would it still be tacky to wear it because it was disrespectful toward all those people who earned the right to wear it.

I HAVE A RIGHT TO BE RACIST
A RIGHT GODDAMMI

It's totally racist.  Not all construction workers wear hardhats.  We need to end this hideous hardhat stereotype once and for all.  We're harming the psyches of dozens of blue collar workers across the nation every day.

So, now we have parents using the "racist" excuse to hide their homophobia.

That is really touchy.  Inappropriate, yes, but she was cosplaying as a black character for Halloween..  That's not even "blackface" (see: Ted Danson).  She kinda got a raw deal on that.

Hold on now.  Are we talking the Xbox version, or the PC version?  Because the Xbox Medal of Honor deserves no respect at all.  Fark them.  Every DJ should wear that one at a rave just as a kick in the nuts.

he asked, "why the fark is it racist?", not "can you please post a picture with no explanation of why honoring someone you admire is still considered racist?".

if someone isn't trying to offend you and you still feel like you need to take offense, you're really a farking dumbass.

They should still dress up, but change the Indian to something else. Maybe instead dress up like a 5.0L engine from a mustang.

Not "kinda" but "totally" a raw deal.  It was not even inappropriate.  She was portraying a specific farking character, with a group of other people playing other specific characters from the same show.  Everyone who had a problem with this needed to pull the goddamn tree out of their asses and get over it.  I have no sympathy for ignorant people looking for reasons to be offended.

Yes, but when it happened, the narrative that the gossip rags and gawker and the touchy-feelies all were like OMG SHE'S WEARING BLACKFACE

Fortunately it kinda faded out.

A bottle of booze, a head band, a quiver, and a handful of beads can be substituted if the child's homemade headdress isn't acceptable.

Only if it's a drag race.

In this day and age, especially as a celebrity, you can't do stuff that even has a hint of racial impropriety.

Speaking of which it makes me wonder what would happen if Ted Danson's thing happened today.

I mean, it was pretty big when it happened back then, but in the age of the internet, gawker, and the Internet Rage Mob (tm)?  Holy shiat.

Never mind the fact that he was dating Whoopi at the time.

But racism implies hatred. There's no hate in this. Racism is just a buzzword anymore.
