She debated taking the stairs since the whole thing seemed to take a long time.

I didn't know they let you take the stairs anymore.  I walked up them in the early 90's (they have plaques from each state going up) but I thought they were closed to the public.

Yeah, apparently the stairs are closed now.  I seem to remember walking to the top via the stairs when I was a kid, it would've been the mid or late 80s, but I could be thinking of another building/monument.

Better visit quick before the pool of lava percolating underneath the monument erupts incinerating everything and everyone into an unrecognizable cinder.

I didn't even know there was an elevator. I think my mom must've been trying to wear us out.

And they want to run our healthcare?  I think we have Obama's Watergate right here. Impeach the president!

The "construction" on the monument was just a cover to plant explosives so it can be blamed on right wing militias, or terrorists, and it's somehow connected with a coup attempt that will take place soon.   It's al a huge false flag to raise Obamas approval rate.  And maybe take our guns.

When my family went to DC in approx 2005, the elevator was broken and had people stuck in it. Elevators. Elevators never change.

CSB:

I had temporary stairs happen to me at the airport in Dallas. They weren't blocked off or anything, so I just started walking down them. Everyone waiting in line for the escalator looked at me like I was crazy.

Our office is a former shopping mall so we have escalators. They break a good bit.

Obama closed it because he hates America.

No, no, no.

The elevator didn't 'break down'.

It was taken out of service by Obama's jack-booted thugs to keep the brave Patriots from 'American Spring' from using the Monument as a lookout post this Friday.

This Farker is in DC right now on a business trip...  Met Admiral William H. McRaven (One who planned the Osama Bin Laden raid) in the elevator.. This Farker didn't care to stand in line for the earth quake memorial...  I saw all the homeless people on every corner to know enough that we fought a good war...  More homeless vets right???!!!  I support them every corner I come to!

I see someone pointed out that this is the consequence of giving the elevator maintenance contract to
WMATA, so I've really got nothing to add here.

It affected a large part of the Eastern side of the country when people thought it be good to put high pressure waste water near fault lines and caused hundreds of millions in damage.

2014-05-15 10:19:31 AM
I always thought it was more impressive on the outside. The inside (IIRC; been 10 years at least) is just a monument museum - but TBF, very little compares to the view from the top.

// the Lincoln, Vietnam and WWII memorials give off better feels
