I don't really know anything about Harry Potter but what they did so far at Universal Studios is pretty cool. The castle or school or whatever the fark is actually really awesome. Your movie, Disney. You have Star Wars, use it.

They've already announced they're turning Hollywood Studios into Star Wars Land at Disney World, and turning Tomorrowland at Disneyland into Star Wars Land there. They've got this, man.

Ah my favorite Potter tale involving three plucky magi-tweens crossing the Rio Grande to get completely ham-faced on a cocktail of dubiously prescribed pharmaceutical Oxycontin and rotgut tequila in a Nuevo Progreso, Mexico titty bar.

That may be the case, but their new rides suuuuuuck compared to the new stuff Universal does. The Harry Potter right is really impressive, both as a thrill ride and as a piece of technology. Disney is still making rides for 1988.

That sounds good. Tomorrowland could definitely use a makeover and get rid of the Indiana Jones stunt show at Hollywood Studios. When I'm in LA I don't have any nieces to take to Disney Land where they apparently have a cool Indy ride.

Replacing The Hall of Presidents would be pretty cool.

And it only took them since 1977.

Now, I know that's not entirely fair.  But it is one of the things that I have to credit Universal for -- they are constantly doing things and changing things to keep it fresh and new.  Disney takes forever to update and change things.

I never watched the movies, so I just assumed Hermione was the girl, but Ron was the girl and everyone has been fapping over Rupert Grint all this time?  Mind=Blown.

I think the idea is they want to put a lot of Episode VII stuff in, but since that's all super secret right now, they can't get started yet. Can't trust Florida construction workers with the plans for the next Death Star or whatever they're hiding.

It's okay. My youngest is less than a year old. That'll give them 5-8 years to get it done.

According to the comments in the TFA the rides aren't for the morbidly obese...and that's poor planning on Universal's fault.

Considering the easy access to potion ingredients and recipes, it's amazing they aren't all constantly stoned.

They have announced no such thing.  They did, however, just promote the guy who oversaw the creation of Islands of Adventure at Universal Stuidos (whom Disney hired away) to a new title overseeing "Star Wars" integration at the parks, causing some serious speculation that they might be doing more than just expanding the very small Hollywood Studios - they might be looking at doing a whole freaking Star Wars park, with themed hotel and restaurants.  I've been to Star Wars Weekend at WDW and as an old school Star Wars geek, it was fantastic.

I did really enjoy the original Harry Potter World at Universal ... so I see this stepped up competition as a pretty great thing.  We're all going to pay through the ass to fund it (or at least those of us who visit theme parks), but they clearly are in one-upmanship mode.  The question is ... how long can Universal keep operating a division of their theme park that generates profits for Disney (Marvel in Universal Studios - Orlando) ... and could they ever afford to sell those rights back to Disney as well ?

Universal's only trump card then would be to create the third Harry Potter "4D" ride - "Journey Inside Hermione's Sex Dungeon"

Even though I couldn't care less about Harry Potter, I predicted that they didn't allot near as much space as they needed. They still have some dumb ass stunt shows right next door that they could easily bull doze for more Harry Potter shiat.

At one point they even closed off Harry Potter land due to overflow. You know there are 1/2 hour lines to buy a wand? To buy a wand. It's like a stick. Anywho, I miss the Jaws ride.

We just went at the very beginning of March. The older section now for HP is years old at this point. The line was still longer than 30 minutes to buy a wand. The original portion is very well done theme wise.

If you want, you will basically be able to LARP throughout the park and the cast of actors will interact with you in character.

I finally got to ride that one last week.  In the end, I sort of went "eh".  Beautiful work mind you, on par with any of the other "E Ticket" stuff, but not as orgasmically mind-blowing as people have said, but without a fastpass I'm not waiting two hours to ride it.  I think I still prefer Indy or Space Mountain.

Of course I'm also a sentimental fart who knows all the Jungle Cruise jokes.

Officially, no. They haven't released any concept art or made any concrete details.

Unofficially, it's pretty much widespread common knowledge among all the Disney rumor mills. Theme parks aren't easy places to keep secrets, that's why they can't build anything until at least the first new movie comes out.

I was thinking the ballad of Poncho and Lefty, but British style and with magic, from your title.

Also, I'm rather pissed that the only way to get ebook versions of the series is to go suck off 'pottermore'. fark you, I don't want to give my farking credit information to some third world farking website, I want to buy this shiat off Amazon like I do 99% of the stuff I buy online. The contract they signed years ago forbids Disney from using Marvel characters in its Orlando parks as long as Universal still has their rides. I'd think Universal will continue to use them just to spite any future Disney World Avengers Land.

Universal was very Disneyesque, but not quite as polished.  Lots of cool stuff, but like Disney there were a couple of things that just sucked balls.  T2-3D was awful.  Twister was worse, and the special effects movie making thing with Walken sucked, too.

I was amazed with how good motion simulation 3D has gotten.  The Simpsons one really was great and I was more whipped by that than by any real coaster (and I love roller coasters).  I think the coolest thing in the park was the bottomless Coke cups.  Free refills all day and like 1000 flavors to choose from.  I think Burger King (of all places) now has the same thing.

Is one of those flavors insulin?

I like Coke, but as with its namesake drug, it's an occasional treat to be consumed in limited quantities.
