When I go at my plyo box hammer and tongs and then rice the sh*t out of some f*cking cauliflower, it's my duty to tell the world about it.

Brothers and sisters, can I interest you in some literature on the paleo diet?

This is surprising, because there are about six CrossFit places within five miles of my house. However, I don't have a single friend on Facebook that talks about it. There's one guy who gets tagged in CrossFit pictures, but at least he's not posting them.

I'm not sure if the google search score counts towards "people who can't shut up about crossift".  I google the name of my gym whenever I want to see what the next day's workout will be, because I'm too lazy to bookmark it.

I don't understand the vitriol for CrossFit.

I mean, I hear people talk about running marathons constantly, especially on Facebook,  but I don't spend my days making "anti-marathon" memes about it.

I get that people say "Oh, it's so unsafe" but I can't believe THAT many people are angry about it!

That's funny, I know one person who posts a lot about cross fit, this list ties Utah for 3rd, and lists Arizona(Where my friend lives) as 14th.

Bad stats are bad.

Exactly, Cross fit is horrible on joints and is basically cheating at regular exercises.

Also does anyone have the pic of the exercise fad inventors? All of them are ripped up except the Cross fit guy looks like a pudgy accountant, which is understandable since it made him rich. Gimmicks usually do.

QFT. I tried Cross Fit when I was already in pretty good shape. Threw out my back doing dead lifts.

I do it but dont post about it. And as far as unsafe, yes, there are bad ones out there that dont teach you proper technique on every movement. The one i went to taught you how to lift with PVC piping and then graduate to empty bar. They also made sure you  used perfect form  and wouldnt let you go to regular classes until you did. If people asked me about it, I always say to research all the ones in your area and try their free classes. If its not organized well and a mess, dont join that one. As far as a cult, hell yea people there take it WAY too far on social media.

Thats what I'm saying though?  I know a lot of runners that have blown their knees out.  Does that count?

My issue is the Crossfit hate is just that, hate.  If everyone were so 'concerned', they wouldn't make funny pictures about it.

I don't mind people working out however they want.  But I've had a few friends and a few coworkers join CrossFit.  It seems less like a workout program and more like a cult (however cool or lame that cult may or may not be).

What I don't get, is the results I've seen.  Or rather, the lack of results.  The only CrossFitter I know personally who looks like he works out, *already* was in amazing shape before he started CrossFit.  Yes, a fat guy losing some weight is impressive and kudos and all that, but that seems to be about where it ends.  And yeah, yeah, 'It's not about training for looks' okay, but I'm not seeing any amazing feats of strength from these people.

Probably because they didn't teach proper lifting technique but rather just said, hey do some deadlifts. Go.

I used to work with a girl who was into it and she was a bit obsessed. Would watch tons of videos at work about it. Showed me a few of them and it did look like they used some pretty strange form. Bench presses where the bar moved like 6 inches, swinging pull-ups, etc. Maybe thats how it's supposed to be done now a days, but man it just didn't look right. Always with a bunch of people yelling stuff. Figured out right away it's not for me. But hey if you like it have fun with it.

There's a bar around here that is apparently near some Crossfit gym/chapel because they always come in after workouts. They stand around, drinking water, talking about their circuits and how they hate leg day. And they tend to smell, from their Crossfit socks all the way up to their Crossfit headbands. I think we're supposed to be impressed.

Been Crossfitting for about a year and a half now, and I personally love it. I get the anger towards it though; if you go on YouTube and search "CrossFit," the first few results will undoubtedly be people trying to clean more  weight than they can safely manage, snatch more weight than they can safely manage, and squat more weight than they can safely manage. These people, more often than not, are the ones who end up hurting themselves.

The problem with CrossFit, which relates directly to these injuries, is that there are no specific guidelines or oversight on CrossFit gyms. To run a CrossFit gym (called a "box" by CFers), the coach needs to be CrossFit certified, but that's it. Once a coach has a certification, he/she does the programming and allows the athletes to lift what they think is right. For this reason, it's important for anyone interested in doing CF to actually research the box you are thinking of joining. My CF box is coached by a guy who was trained and competed in Olympic-style lifting, so he's VERY strict on what we can lift and can't. It's also very important that we have the technique of lifts down before we try it. That means we go through several weeks of training on very low weight for certain lifts before we try to do anything resembling heavy weight. That said, I've been to other boxes where I've seen a 105lb woman try to power clean 185lbs. The variation in the quality of the boxes is huge.

Having played HS baseball, football, and hockey, as well as collegiate ice hockey (I know, I know... gym in 26 minutes, all that)... it seems to me that my likelihood of injury doing CF is about the same as any competitive sport. Just like any other sport, however, it depends on oversight and quality of your strength coach. Know your limits and don't train like an ass, and you won't hurt yourself.

Because the people that get into cross-fit REALLY get in to cross-fit. Like everything they post multiple times a day is about what they're eating or all the exercising they're doing. Then throw in all the mirror selfies they take and it gets worse.

The way the cross fit people proselytize over the top is what's annoying.

Unless you have Celiacs it's not the kind of eating that should be taken completely to heart.  Cherry pick the stuff that makes sense to you.  A whole new world of culinary wonders awaits you once you step into the world of eating different.

Ever roast a head of cauliflower in a spicy yogurt sauce?  Or make your own energy bars using no wheat products at all?

You don't have to go all wonky about it.  Just cut back the processed foods to as little as possible.  Make it yourself from scratch when you can.  It's worth incorporating into your diet.  Just don't be stupid about it.
